Plastic heating

Has anyone ever used the method of heating up the plastics with a MAPP torch to give em a new look? I have some spare pieces i messed with the other day and was lookin for some advice. After a few tries I got some decent results by putting a good amount of heat on it for a very short time. Got alot of the scratches out or reduced the size alot. Only thing is its got a dull finish, not as shiny as what I have on the quad. Just wondering if anyone out there knows the trick.

I've went on ebay and watched the method on heating or soldering the parts together, so I'm going to try that to fix my broken plastic. I'll let you know how it turns out. I have both a soldering iron & heat gun,so let the experiment begin.
i think a soldering iron may be to hot they make a plastic welder and there are a couple nice articles on plastic repair on here
Where do you purchase the plastic welding iron? one video i saw the guy useing a soldering iron with a large tip, but another one showed a flat iron to weld the plastic,so if isn't much I'd purchase one.

Just google "plastic welding kit" and you will find lots of them.
Thanks Helmut.
Was able to purchase a used plastic welding kit off ebay for .99 plus shipping a total of a little over $12. Looks like it has all the attachments, but I'll do an up-date how it comes out. I also found some red Honda plastic welding sticks, but first going to make sure the welder works before i purchase the welding sticks. Heck for only $12 I had to take the chance on the welder.
