Starting a new thread, the old thread title didn't apply.
2006 Rancher project that apparently got very hot in it's previous life before I got it. The piston has cracked along the edges and deformed so that the rings were almost fused into it. Could not remove the wrist pin to get the piston out, and wound up cutting the piston in half to remove it.
The problem I have now is that the piston wrist pin is fused to the connecting rod. I cannot figure a way to separate them. I have tried penetrating oil and heating up the rod. I have tried to pull the pin out with a long socket and bolt, but have sheared the bolt twice. I don't have the tools or experience to break open the cases to replace the rod. Any other suggestions?

The cases will have to be split and a new crankshaft & rod assembly installed at a minimum.

Chances are there is much, much more carnage to be found inside those cases though. Obviously it ran without oil pressure (or a crankcase full of water & mud) for a very, very long time! Don't waste your time trying to get that wrist pin out of the rod, its junk.

Expect the worse and hope for the best! If you can find a good used motor at a fair price that might be the more sensible option for you.

From what I see in your pics , along with you saying you don't have tools or experience , I would throw that engine in the parts pile and find another running engine , I think of the word fried looking at the pics , by the time you bought a crank , jug work , piston , bearings , oil pump , timing chain, maybe a cam and everything else you would need to make it right and paid someone to do it , you could find another bike and start over ------ getting the piston off the rod is not going to accomplish nothing , would think the crank and rod are trash anyways , so getting it off is a waste of time

East central Mississippi. Why? you wanna buy a parts bike?:smile
Sounds like you're a bit South. I'm across the river from Clarksdale.

What kind of tools do you have? Splitting cases on a 350 really isn't too bad. The only specialty tool you need is a flywheel tool, and you get get one of those cheap on ebay.

From what others have said, and what I see, I believe this engine is trashed. I will likely part out the bike and maybe keep the engine and break it down for the experience. If I can find the time and gumption between other projects and honey-dos. I'll post pics when I do it.

I might be interested in the bike depending on what it looks like. I'm almost done with the 05 I'm rebuilding for my kid and I kinda like the way the 350's are put together. Like my Foreman, but smaller for women and kids. Engine is set up the same way (more or less), parts are cheap, and there are upgrades that are cheap and use OEM parts.

..... smaller for women!!! Why I oughta :) lmao
Yep crank is garbage but there's plenty of help here to get it done. Don't part it out Hondas deserve to live!! .... unless it's not a 4x4 if so then part it cause you'll never get your money's worth in parts needed to fix it.

My wife is quite capable of handling a bigger rig, but when I bought a 420 to flip she liked the smaller frame better.

Thus her 420AT that she rides now. Of course, it has a 500 Foreman top end, IRS, and a gear reduction, so she can go anywhere I can and then some, but she wanted something smaller and more nimble.

My two daughters don't like my 500's. They saw a friend's 300 and said that's what they wanted, so one is getting a 300 and the other a 350.

Honestly, I'm 5' 10" and about 195 so I'm the king of the midgets these days. A 350 is plenty big for me, and the big plus on the smaller bikes is if you get stuck you can pick them up and move them.

Those pics were about 5 years ago. The twerp on the back is now as big as my wife, and the 350 I'm putting together will be hers.

26" vamps on Foreman wheels, 420 Disc brakes, 400AT selectable front diff, engine has been gone through, split cases, cleaned out, new timing chain, seals, top end, ball joints, tie rod ends, and bearings front and rear. It's an ES and I pulled the shifter reduction gears and put a footshift spindle and shifter on it when I had it torn down, so it's now a footshift. Hopefully the display will work ok and not throw constant error codes from the ES delete.

So it's basically set up exactly like my Foremans but a little smaller. She's excited about it.

Hi Carolyn: In my 90's --- Girl I am only 74 --- I am still riding and working on friends ATV's -- was out last week swinging a chainsaw & thinning saw all day cutting a new ATV trail in the woods. I see you are really getting good at ATV repairs and trouble shooting electrical problems --- good to see that you have taken the interest in it. Stay with it -- have fun -- be safe.

I hear you Fish. FIRST time out on the wife's 420AT, she ran into something and bent back the brand new Hondaline front bumper I put on it.

When I asked what she hit she said "I didn't hit anything, why?"

When I pointed to the bumper she said "Huh, I don't remember hitting anything."
