This part of the Honda forum would be so much better if it could be organized by state, but I don't even know who to suggest it to.

The forums are great.

well in a small way there is a place on THIS site to start this, its here

Places to Ride - Honda ATV Forum

one of the BIG problems I think with this idea and why it doesn;'t happen all that much is MANY , maybe MOST folks ride on places there NOT really supposed to me, so don't have permission to INVITE anyone there

next will be most members here I think don;t live exactly close to each other to do this

I have seen several times here where folks /members have posted links to rides that were OPEN to the public, (small fee maybe) to try and get folks to come out, yet they get VERY few reply's or remembers to show up to ride

even recall a member here offering to be a tour guide out west on some great trails for a week, and it never got anyone really willing to go(they offered to help with finding an atv to ride out there too)

but I know here where I ride, I ride private lands, I have permission on and I couldn;'t bring anyone without permission and honestly, I appreciate being able to ride all I do , I would feel a little out of place asking to bring others in,a s MOST places I ride, members PAY to have, so, no way to ASK to bring in a FREE rider, when real members PAY, just wouldn;t seem right to me
and think this could be with others here as well

OR again, they just ride and DON"T ask, and don't want the risks(AKA< liabalty, insurance can be a BIG issue here, someone riding on someone elses lands, is a RISK to the land owner, they can be SUED if a person falls, or crashes and gets hurt, MOST clubs here, that own LARGE amounts of land, get coverage, when the member joins there club as part of what they PAY for to be a member)
SO< insurance side of this is a BIG issue!

next is out of state riders IF willing to travel to ride, would also need to register or do other things to ride else where, and MANY don't or won't PAY to do so?
NOT as easy as you would think
BUt I am sure anyone WANTING to TRY< to start a post saying LETS RIDE "X" week/ weekend
and can get a waiver or what ever is needed to be safe in ALL ways, legally and physically

never know till you try posting a post in the above section??

Maybe I miss read this
and you mean, have a PER state section on things?
to be honest if your looking for that, there are a few web sites out there that already do list places to ride in each state and are more dedicated to JUST providing info on where you can ride and stay more up to date on what places are open or closed and what rules are in place for each area

its hard to say on a site like this, as folks could read and get into trouble taking whats here as FACT when it could possibly NOT be

best place to find LEGAL places top ride in YOUR state or others is with the DCNR for the state you wish to learn more about
it will be the most correct and up to date place

An organized section would be really useful. Lets take Nevada for example. Yes, there are trail maps, trail organizations and all kinds of available resources. In fact, you could spend a week reading about it and still not know one place from another, other than, if you want to, you can go there... legally, and there are some trails, of which each has big rocks, one tree, a mine, tons of cactus, no water and is hot in the summer.

On the other hand, I do some remote riding, often work related. Would I recommend the Toyabe's? How about Rail Road Valley? Yea, I think any members cutting through Nevada would appreciate pinpointing a few miles of open remote trail laced with hot springs and 11,000 foot peaks, with maybe a mention of the nearest gas station, why the Presidential suite ($45) at the casino in Ely is better that the three hore houses next door (they take reservations), and stuff like that. Alternatively, you could find yourself in Red Rock in Vegas where temperature might be 125 degrees, there is less than one tree, no hot spring, but it comes highly recommended in every single guidebook with 10 recommended must-do rides, and not mentioned - 200 other riders each day on rentals.

I currently don't use the "Where to Ride" section because it is too disorganized. But if I was driving through Nunavet with my quad, then I would certainly appreciate some tips from a real person. I certainly don't need someone like Creed or Macaroni Man to show me around, so I don't need organized rides. But I could certainly use some tips from locals. My guess is that this would be a successful section of the forum.

Around here there are many places to ride even though they are getting harder to find , spots are getting posted and fenced regularly because of too much traffic , but when you find a good spot to ride the word should be "mum" , it is kinda like fishing , if you find a honey hole , you keep it to yourself , cause if you don't next time you go there you would get close to the "X" spot cause there are 15 boats in a circle on top of it , you tell a friend , he tells his brother in law would tells his cousin and so on -------- once traffic starts coming in , it will be ruined , from people acting stupid , by getting rowdy and having the sheriff pull up and then it becomes a Hot Spot , they are throwing beer , liquor bottles and trash all over the place , sitting in one spot and digging the holes out on purpose with big bikes so the next guy along sinks his bike -------- it is getting harder to find good spots , and when you talk about 4 wheeling with people for the first time , the very first question 90% of the time is " Where do you ride ? " ------

X2! I've lived in roughly the same area my whole life. It seems like every 5yrs or so they lock it up or build something there and you have to find someplace else. People drink, leave a mess and have no respect. Just look at the roadsides in the spring, trash everywhere. I leave about 5 miles from the edge of the Adirondack Park in Upstate, NY. 6.1 MILLION acres and you can only ride on about 1 mile of it lol. There's hiking trails, horse trails, hell snowmobile trails. Think they can open some of it up to atv's NOOO! The amount of taxes and fees I/We pay for these things and there's not one place you can ride it. I've literally been an OUTLAW since I was 10 and got my first dirtbike lol

Maybe now that power has changed in Washington, maybe the forest circus and BLM will be opening up more land for people to enjoy on ATV's and SxS's.. I think its ridiculous that all our lands are gated and blocked off.. WE OWN IT.. Unless sensitive or wet land it should be open if it has a road through it and or is open for logging.

Larryw, I'm with you ALMOST,
and I say ALMOST< due to I think there should be some places ALWAYS closed to motorized vehicles and kept to be 100% natural

NOW< with SO many places so called PUBLIC land, and roads already on MOST of them, I agree, there should be access to the public to USE these public lands in more ways than we have now

I sadly DOUBT the new president will make much head way, as the people that run these public lands will cry to loud about all the NEW work they would have to do to allow this and want MORE money

to do basically what they SHOULD be doing NOW!

the whining of DCNR and game dept's and state parks, will go NUTS, if they had to do any more work(LOL)
they might have to get out of there trucks more often, and DO something??

good thought here, but I don't see it happening, just the opposite is more likely, as they cry about loud pipes, property damage, trash, costs to UP keep the few trails we do have and Blah Blah Blah, leading to more reasons to CLOSE more places than open more

add in MANY pl;aces that are public owned lands are more remote, and it makes a harder sales pitch about adding to local economy's
as most places here, there ain't no businesses near most of the larger public area's

sadly, its going to end up going the other way, LESS access over More, IMO

Nevada is 85% Federal land and we can ride over almost all of it, except for some national parks which occupy about 30 of the 150 mountain ranges. You are all making the case that we SHOULD have a section on Where To Ride, organized by State, so that each of you that only have 1 dirt road to ride on in your entire state would then understand where to go when you come to Nevada. We don't need to protect "honey holes" here, there is just too much space.

Wisconsin and Michigan has a lot of open areas too.. I agree about most of the land should be open like I said unless sensitive.. But if we put a road in it to be logged or for the government to ride around in WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO USE IT with in reason.. Also I think if you put your land under forest crop so you get massive tax breaks if that land has a roads in it it should be open for public use.. People get tax breaks on massive amounts of land and then say you can only walk on it?? No bikes, no atvs nothing but walking only, I think that is crap lots and lots of crap.. We have people with hundreds and some with thousands of acres of land and they only pay 38 dollars per 40 acres and then they block it off to only foot traffic only..

As long a we have a casual forum for people to talk about places to ride, let's organize it by state such that we might benefit from others experience. That's all I was suggesting. I'm not saying it's the place to find official, bullet proof information. But if someone went on one of Wisconsin's legal, scenic trails and thought it was great, I like to be able to find the post and read about their experience. I know where to go to see if the trail is open or closed, fee or free, legal or not. Like another poster said, here in Wisconsin we have literally thousands of miles of legal trails to choose from. A few personal experience stories would help decide on what trail to try next.

Yes, in my mind it should be very, very simple. I think some people are overthinking the original suggestion. In other words they got off the trail and are lost in the woods. LOL
