While I am waiting engine parts, I am starting to look at other stuff on my 89 TRX 350.
The kick starter does not turn the engine. Some say it could be the one way bearing, so I am looking all over the schematics and I am confused about if there is another one way bearing for the electric starter or is there just one common one. I cannot seem to locate anything but the one for the starter.
Also, my starter works just fine, so that one way bearing must be working OK.
Can someone clarify this for me please.

Yep, if the kick starter isn't turning the engine over, the one-way clutch bearing is bad. It's located on the inside of the centrifugal clutch on the right side of the engine. The one-way clutch bearing is also responsible for your engine braking, so if it's bad, the engine won't hold the ATV back when going downhill.

And yes, there is another one way bearing on the back of the flywheel that the starter gear fits into. If the starter turns the engine over, it's working fine. Honda calls this one way bearing, the starter clutch.

Both bearings are just one-way sprag bearings.

Thank you--Can you point me to a link where I can possibly buy the kick starter one way bearing?? I went to mother Honda today and essentially told them that they were trying to sell me the starter clutch, and they could not seem to find the clutch that I wanted.

The Honda part # is 91101-HA7-674, but it seems to have been discontinued, according to the servicehonda website located at this link. It's part #27 located under the "clutch" heading.

I checked bikebandit.com and they don't have it either.

It wouldn't let me link directly to the clutch in the link I posted above, but it's #27 in the diagram below.

Yes, I had been finding that one and for some reason, I kept thinking that was the starter clutch. I have looked all over and it would appear that part is not being made anymore. That sux.

just thought i'd chime in here..and offer my 2 cents worth..no..they do not make or offer the one-way centrifugal clutch bearing...buttttttt..if you think you can handle it....here's a trick i learned..purchase a new bearing..say..for the flywheel side..this will show you on one side of the outter bearing case..'' this side out ''..now..take the old outter bearing case ..see which way it is marked..it also will say..'' this side out ''..or something along this line..lay the new one..and old one side by side..carefully remove the spring that surrounds the little bearings from the new bearing..lay it next to the old wore out bearing...remove the old spring from the old bearing ( this is the centrifugal clutch bearing your rebuilding )..remove the little bearing's from the old centrifugal clutch carefully..try not to flip them over as you remove them..set them off out to the side..DO NOT MIX THEM UP WITH THE NEW ONES AT THIS POINT !..now..take each new bearing carefully out of the new bearing carrier...as you remove one by one..flip it over..make sure the grove faces out...this is where the spring rides after you get al the new bearings in place..oh..not sure if there is the same count on the bearings from the new one to the old one..but they should be the same..just make sure you flip each new bearing over..place it into the old carrier..after you have done this..wrap the spring around the bearings..be very careful not to make any of the new bearings fall out once you place them into the old carrier..if all goes right..you just restored your centrifugal clutch with new bearings..put it in the centrifugal clutch..graps the clutch..and make sure you installed them in the right direction..it should turn one way freely..and lock the other..let me know how it goes.

Shade--I understand everything you are saying, except the part about which new bearing to get. Am I supposed to get the electric starter clutch bearing, or will any bearing which is the same size work. Can I go to a bearing shop and simply try to match up the two--once I have the old sprague bearing out.
Are they balls or rollers???

buy the bearing that goes on the flywheel side ( starter side )..it has the same bearings as the one-way bearing you need to replace on the clutch side...you just need to take all the new bearings out of the new one..and install them into the carrier for the clutch side..just make sure to flip them when you install them..with grove out..added..they are halfway rollers ablong so to speak.

the bearing on the starter side...and the bearing on the clutch side...are the same bearings..the only difference is..they are 1..facing the other way..and 2..they are put into a different carrier..other than that..they are the same bearing..i learned this trick years ago..about turning them around..because one bearing has to turn one way on one side..while the other one turns the other way..soooooo..all you do is..take new bearings..flip them..and they work just like new.

I was just wondering if someone could please tell me where I could find the one way bearing in this picture I have looked online for the starter clutch one-way bearing and I keep coming up with the bearing for the pull start. any help would be much appreciated.

If you're looking at the online parts microfiche, it's listed under the "alternator" section and it's called "one-way clutch" or "one-way starter clutch". Not sure what you mean by "bearing for pull start".

Shades trying to tell you is that the bearings aren't fully rounded as a ball,or roller bearing would be,they are flattened out on one side(kinda look like the ying yang things, but all facing one direction),and then the flat part rounds into the rounded part of the bearing, and simply flipping the new (starter side, left side) bearings over, and installing them into your old carrier along with the new retaining spring will set you up with the properly oriented one way bearings for the side you need(kick start/right side)...add a touch of assembly grease to help hold the bearings in place helps a lot also...

The 400EX starter clutch bearing will also work for that model, they're the same thing.
