What year? Are you checking level properly? Those early Ranchers have a fill port on one side and a dipstick on the other. You pull the dipstick wipe it and reinsert without screwing it in—rest it on the oring
How old is your oil? It’s not going anywhere outside?
Ive seen oil so stiff it popped the dipstick out of the oil tank of a 03 Softail. This bike was in storage for six years—did same thing yours id doing. I got nasty snotty oil all over the shop.

It’s a 2012 Honda rancher 2000 miles i change of oil last fall road it in the winter no Problems roarit last week 45 miles ran great walked in garage yesterday seen oil spot on ground under it was on cover and side by where you fill oil cleaned it up check oil it was just below the line full ran it for 15 minutes got it warmed up shut it off and waited a few minutes check it and nothing on stick removed the fill cap oil was up in motor it did drain back but took a long time

ENGINE OIL
LEVEL CHECK
NOTE:
Check the oil level after starting the engine and
allowing the oil to circulate through the engine thoroughly.
II is especially important on a dry sump
engine. due to the comparatively large volume of oil.
Do nol snap the throttle while idling or Ihe oil level
reading will be inaccurate.
Remove the left side cover (page 3-4).
Place the vehicle on level ground.
Start the engine and let it idle for 3 - 5 minutes.
If the air temperature is below 10"C (50"F). let the
engine idle for an additional 5 minutes (a total of 10
minutes).
Stop the engine and wail 2 - 3 minutes.
Remove the dipstick. and wipe it clean.
Check the oil level by inserting the dipstick into the
engine without screwing it in.
The engine contains a sufficient amount of oil if the oil
level is between the upper and lower level marks on
the dipstick.

I don't think this is a dry sump engine. OOPs!. LOL I think it is a dry sump. Oil fill and dipstick are two different areas? My 2008 and 2014 Ranchers aren't that design. What's up with that?
