i am about to go buy some oil and a filter for my 400. problem is that i can't find a specific number for the oil filter. does anyone know if it matters which filter to get? i would think that the box would say in the back the model of quads it is compatible with right?

oil filter

Honda uses two very similar oil filters that they say are interswappable but there is a miniscule difference between them, the end cap (metal ) is flanged an extra 1mm outside dia. on the one for 4x4 atv use. I believe it either restricts flow or possibly creates a disturbance that may catch more particles? I honestly don't know but motorcycles and the 400 ex use the higher flow, non-flanged one.

motorcycle and 400 ex one is Honda= #kfo-315, hi flow= hf 113, K&N= kn-113

4x4 atv use one is hm5-a10, hi flow hf-112, kn112 but it will work if you can't get the other................

I had K&N 113 on my 2002 400ex, you can find it for around 8 usd/each one.
It also uses 1.95 qtr oil, 4 stroke engine when you replace oil filter.
