So I got an early christmas present this year from my dad. I got aluminum skid plates for the body and the a-arms. Should be a real help to stop tearing up the plastic ones. I got so many cuts and tears in my plastic ones its a joke now. Full metal all the way!

that's great. what kind did you get? as a reminder at Christmas you will just have to put the atached plates on the tree, not under the tree because the plates won't work then . [ that's a joke ] you have a great father, be thankfull.

They were all made by Armadillo. I finally got a chance to put them on today, took a lot longer than I had hoped. Didnt help I took off the old plastics and almost screamed at the amount of dirt and mud :icon_ goofy:

You should be able to stand it on end, like if you did a wheelie to far. Just make sure your gas is shut off(if you have a gas flow shutoff). Someone else will chime in. that is how I put the ones on my sport quad on.

 Ok, stupid new-guy question. I am going to get these myself, but how do you get under the thing (Rancher 420 ES 4x4)? Tip her on end? If so, what precautions need to be made?
I just laid on the floor when I did it lol You can try using a jack (sp?) to pick it up and go under the front then move the jack do that part etc. or you could put blocks under it. Just make sure it doesnt fall! I wouldnt recommend doing the "stand it on its end" idea with a rancher. Even if u could get it up in the air (THAT THING IS HEAVY) the thing would be pretty unstable and require some real precautions

Really? I know people who transport 4x4 quads standing on the rear bumpers. They are not going to go any where. It is perfectly safe to stand a quad on end.

Yeah, it won't hurt them to stand them on end. I have let them stand on end for weeks while waiting for parts. Just be sure to turn your fuel off and pinch off the fuel tank vent line if it has one. A Fourtrax 300 doesn't have a vent line, so on those just turn off the vent switch on the gas cap. Most utility ATVs will just sit back on the rear rack. The only other problem that I can think of is if you have a full tank of gas, it's possible that the gas can leak out around the gas cap and fade your plastic or discolor the paint on your tank, if it has a metal tank like the Fourtrax 300. But that's only if you leave it standing on end for more than a couple days. I've had this happen, so you've been warned. LOL.
