hi I have a 2004 honda rancher that is automatic and electric shift it will show it is in reverse but won't go into any gear it was going into gear then it made a grinding noise now nothing any info would be appreciated thanks

need more info, 2004 honda rancher automatic does not tell us much. need FULL make/model !. if its the model with a auto tranny, and the tranny is bad ?, you got yourself a very large paper weight. the tranny is non-serviceable by honda standards. and they are not cheap to replace !.

Sounds like the cable is broken. I would start there. From the shifter to the left side near the foot rest.
