Well outlaws, just got back from a 9 hour round trip from MO. was doing my normal eyeing CL's this morning, and seen a 2005 trx500fm listed for 800, non-running. called the add, spoke to the man, asked him his lowest dollar ?, he replied 650, responded with '' will you take 600 cash '' ?, he said..ya !. was on my way, just got back home, i'm tired, hungry, and man..what a turn and burn drive !..lol. it's got a few broken plastics parts, around the headlight bezel for sure !. even has a winch on it !. the cons:...IT'S FREAKING YELLOW !...LMAOO. if I keep it ?, it will turn red if I can locate red plastics ?, have not even looked this year/make/model up yet ?. i'm sure it will have red plastics ?..I hope !..lol. needs motor work for sure, and a few other things, nothing I can't handle. it's still in the truck, will unload tomorrow when I get up, too tired right now..lol. i'll post some pics when I unload it.

just woke up, waiting on daylight, then will get it unloaded. body wise ?, it looked pretty damn good last night, just not keen on yellow at all ?. who was it the other day looking for a trx500fm ? a member here trying his best to locate one ?, but did not want to go far to get it ?..lol. yeah, you know me bro, when I find a deal ?, i'm gone !!!..lol.

yeah, not fond of electric shifts one bit !..lol, or auto trannies !. still have not unloaded it from my truck, still trying to wake up..lol. that, and it get warmer outside !..lmao. just checked the prices on fenders, wow, these things are dirt cheap today !. I paid higher prices for older rancher fenders than I will this '05 trx500fm, talk about odd ?!..lol.

Did not see any white plastics for this model from the state side, guess this is a Canada version only ?. even if they did sell white plastics here for this model, i'd pass on them, shows too much dirt..lol. as you know, i'm not a mud person at all, at least not driving into it on purpose !..lol.

Hey man! Now you're getting into what I know!

White was a 2008 color. 05-09 and 2011 (no 2010 model) are pretty much the same. The 05-06 had two tail lights and the 07-up had a single in the cargo box lid.

05-08 had a weak first gear. 09-11 they improved the design and if you're splitting cases it's easy to replace while you're in there. New gearset is about $50.

I got a parts bike a couple of years ago that was yellow. Couldn't give those plastics away (they weren't in great shape, but still).

Red, yellow, green, black, white, and camo are all available for that bike. Dark Blue too (only on the 05-06 2wd machines though, so no blue pod light cover is available as the 2wd didn't come with the top light).

You got a great deal on that if it's complete. Disc brakes, selectable 4wd, and the last of the air cooled Honda designs.

( have not looked to see what brand though ? ). the guy said he had some clutch work, and top end work done, new cam chain, then it just stopped , won't turn over, nothing..so he say's ?, have not had a chance to inspect it yet ?, still in the back of my truck..lol. I think I did great for 600 bucks, 9 hours of driving, and 40 bucks in gas..lol.

I take it you either strapped that quad to the roof of a VW Jetta or gas is much cheaper where you are at lol.

lmao^^^, gas is about $ 2.15 a gallon here.

That'll clean up nice. for the price you got it, I would replace all the plastic pieces, I've done rebuilds in the past where I mixed and matched new to old, and it just don't look that great once the armor all wears off

And the tear down begins ( I don't waste time..lol ). from these pics, can you see what is wrong ?..lol. in case ya don't ?, RED RTV SEALANT !!!!, it's on the stator cover, as well as the rocker box. next: it's kinda hard to see down inside the lower case, ( I pulled the top end off just now ), but if you look very closely at the idle gear ?, it's just hanging down in the front !!!..lol. not even attached to anything !!!..yeah, now I gotta pull the motor, split it, because it's full of metal crap !!, all you ppl that think flushing is the idea ?...THINK AGAIN !..LOL. the good news : piston looks ok ?, not 100% sure yet ?, as I have not checked the rings and bore yet in the cylinder ?. I will keep everyone up to date as I tear more into it .

Ok, here is a few pics of what happens WHEN YOU JUST FLUSH INSTEAD OF SPLIT THE CASES WHEN SUNK !. my gawd ppl, stop freaking cutting corners !!!. found a few rusted main parts ( did not take pics was so mad ), oil pump: dead. idle gear:dead. main case halves: dead. cam: dead. cam bearings: dead. crank is good though !..lmfao. anyway, enjoy these pics, AND THINK ABOUT IT THE NEXT TIME YOU THINK A FLUSH WILL FIX YOUR MOTOR ?!!. my money says oil pump locked up, then idle gear bearings went, then cam bearings from grit in the motor.

Oh man is that bearing race rounded out? Can you rebuild that engine? Anyway I like that quad could you hit it with some Mossy Oak wrap?

bearings on cam and idle gear shattered !..lol. oil pump twisted the tang off, idle gear tang where the oil pump mates ?, twisted off !. cam is destroyed as well as idle gear and all bearings. crank seems to be good to run ?, will check again when I get time. case halves where the bearings sit are rounded out big time, one side of the case half has a crack busted through it, oil drain threads are half gone on the inside, one big cluster freak was in the engine !!!..lol. can I rebuild it ?...sure...once I get a idle gear, new cam, new oil pump, and both main case halves ?, I can rebuild her, better, stronger..faster !..lmao ( ok..was kidding about the faster part ..lol ). I can rebuild just about all Honda engines...if I have parts ?..lol. this motor will be a complete rebuild from scratch I guess ?. gonna do my best to make her right.

I bought my 06 that had been ridden for 2500 miles with, from looking at it, no oil change. Crank, top end, and balancer were trashed. knuckles were ruined from riding with wheels at / \ angles for so long.....but just wow.

Can you imagine what it took to get to that point?

But, if the crank is good; a new crank would cost more than all the other stuff combined.

ehhhh..if your buying new case halves ?..WRONG !!..LOL. one part is over 300 bucks, other side is over 200 bucks, soooo..add that, and all the other parts I need ?, pretty sure a new crank might be cheaper ?. ( have not looked at crank prices ).
