Hi all
I'm Liza and I'm from Warwickshire in the UK. Had a couple of quads before and then sold them due to moving farms etc.
Anyway, I've ended up with another quad...................and it doesn't run too well so I'd like to have a look and see what's going on.
I'll try and find the right place to post about the quad's issues, but if anyone can advise I'd be very grateful as my first task is to make sure I know exactly what it is!
I've been told it's a Honda 350 Big Red. Now the fairing also suggests it's a Honda Big Red.
Firstly how do I make sure this is exactly what I have.............secondly is this quad also known as a 350TRX as I'm trying to locate a workshop manual.
Hoping you can help!

Welcome to the forums...
You should have a small decal on the front side of the frame probably close to where the front bumper mounts. On that decal it should have the model and other specification.

Yes it has a small black and silver sticker on the front bit of the frame, but it's been damaged and I can't make out anything useful on it at all.

Would there be a VIN number stamped anywhere that I can look for?

There should be a vin# stamped on the front of the frame. From there we can tell you what you have.

I'll have a good look tonight when I get in.

Have been in touch with a great company called Quad Bike Wales and from my description they have narrowed it down to a 300 Big Red which could be up to a 96/97 - so much for the description I was given of it. Anyway I've now ordered a Workshop Manual for it so perhaps I can get to grips with it and sort out the smoking problem it appears to have!

What color is the smoke? And does it smoke all the time or just when you start it?

Thats what I'm saying. They were sold in other countries. I know Europe and I think canada. But since she is from the UK then we will have to try to help her know what she has over there so when she goes in for parts she gets what she needs. See what I'm trying to say? I'm not good with words this morning...lol

Right I'm happy to announce that there is a VIN number on the quad.....which pleases me no end as quads are stolen all the time over here.

If I'm reading the VIN number correctly then the Quad is a 1990 TRX300 FWJ-T Fourtrax 4x4. It is also known over here as the 300 Big Red.

Ok guys, now I know what it is I'll tell you the story.

Quad taken in part payment against a debt so I didn't get to see it until the last minute. Took a while to start, but chap said it had been standing for over a month.
It smoked on start up and the chap said it was due to standing - no, that doesn't happen! I suspected seals and rings. It drove ok but was a little jerky, but then hardly had any fuel in it.
Didn't have a lot of time to look it over so it's now sat in the garage. I took the top of the air box this morning and no air filter on it - well that won't help!

So before I run it up again I want to check levels etc. It also looked like there had been some damp/water in the air box.

I'm no mechanic so I know I'll need help and advice, but I'm not frightened to work on my Landrover Engine so I'll give it a good go (Oh, and yes my Landrover does run and drive)

So thank you all so far and I hope you'll stick with me on this project.

Will get a piccie posted up of it.

welcome to the forums! about you quads smoking problem, id say judging by its age that the piston rings and valve seals are bad. its not that hard to fix, but you about have to pull the motor completely out of the bike to do it.
