Hi all, I am new to ATV's. We have been a PWC family but now are adding ATVs for recreation. I bought 2 new TRX250ex's for my daughters for Christmas. So we are excited and glad to join this forum.

I also purchased a used 2005 TRX250ex so my wife or I can ride with the girls. Hopefully we will purchase a 400 or 450 in the future, that is the goal. My question is: on the new ATVs, when you hit the brakes, the tail light gets brighter, typically brake light but on my 2005, there doesn't seem to be a brake light, the light stays the same brightness. I just got a new bulb and no brake lights still, just the tail light. So does the 2005 model have a brake light? I search this forum and the internet but could not find an answer. I looked for it in the service manual wiring diagram and it doesn't look like it does, only the Canadian model had it but I just wanted to make sure. :)

Thanks guys!

You are getting no brake light when you push the foot brake or the hand brake or both?

The easiest way to tell is to listen to the brake lever when the machine is off. If you hear a click when you pull the lever, then you have have brake lights [the click is the switch]. No clicky, no lighty.

Thanks guys, to answer your questions:

Q. You are getting no brake light when you push the foot brake or the hand brake or both?
A. no light from foot, hand or both.

Q. Look down in the bulb socket. Does it have one contact or two? Does the bulb match the number of contacts?
A. Two contacts and the bulb has 2 as well

Q. The easiest way to tell is to listen to the brake lever when the machine is off. If you hear a click when you pull the lever, then you have have brake lights [the click is the switch]. No clicky, no lighty.
A. With the machine off, I pull the brake lever (and tried pushing brake level too) and no clicky, so I guess no lighty?

If I had to guess I would say there is no switch. It would be unusual for both hand lever and brake pedal switch to go bad at the same time. Even with the dual contact light, it may not have a brake light circuit. Is there wires running up to the hand brake lever? If there aren't any wires, then of course there is no light circuit.

I did what Pain said (I should have figured) and looked for wires to the brake lever or foot brake and there are no wires. I compared it to my daughter's new quad and I see the wires on hers and I hear the CLICKY when I pull on the lever, so the answer is no brake lights. Sorry I should I figured it out but just thought it was weird that the 2005 model wouldn't have brake lights, its not that old. Well, that is why I love these forums, helpful and good people!
