Hello,

I have a 2006 honda trx350, when it is on a flat surface and I grab the front wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock and give a gentle side to side motion it feels loose on both sides, would this be due to tie-rod, knuckle or nut on steering column, or something else entirely. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Peter

It could be tie rod ends, wheel bearings, or the steering shaft bearing. A lot of times, it's a combination of these 3 things.

Does it have any movement at the 12 and 6 o'clock position? If it does, it could also be the ball joints.

no 6 or 12 o'clock play, I did notice where the tie rod meets the steering shaft, that below the steering shaft there is a recepticle for the tire rod and that seems to be where the free side to side play is.

You have a tie rod end on each end of the tie rod. It sounds like your inner tie rod end is bad. But make sure it isn't the steering shaft bearing. Sometimes the whole bottom of the steering shaft will move and it will just look like the inner tie rod end is bad. Try to hold the bottom of the steering shaft with one hand and then try to move the tire and see if you can see the inner tie rod end move. If the inner tie rod end moves, while holding the steering shaft, then the inner tie rod end is definitely bad.
