I just bought my first new rubicon. I have a 02 ruby and a 99 forman but bought both of them used. My ? Is the best way to break in the engine on a brand new machine. I have read alot of conflicting ways.. thanks
just vary the throttle for the first couple hours of use, and you should be fine. make sure to change the oil when its time, also make sure to install the oil filter facing the correct way for your model !.
New bikes come with a special break-in oil, so I would follow the manufacture recommendation on the first oil change and suspect it is 100 miles/20 hours, but you can check those specifics. Personally and during break-in, I would avoid excessive idling, pulling heavy loads and vary the riding conditions…. Keep in mind, you have a Honda, so enjoy it and no worries!!
Remember you are seating the rings, you want higher power/manifold pressure, max around 75% power. Go up some hills but don’t overheat. When oil consumption drops off, the rings are seated. (So keep the oil level up!). I would change the oil as soon as the rings seat, probably less than 10 hrs.
all great tips here outlaws !. personally, when I rebuild a motor on an old machine ?, I run it hard right out the gate, but I don't hold it there !. we all got our ways I guess .
