Hello all...just bought a green 09 Rancher AT this weekend (told my wife it was her anniversary gift (which was Saturday)
. I've been dragging my deer out of the woods by hand, and last fall swore I'd never do it again. Bow season begins in two weeks, so I figured it was time to get an ATV. I put 5 miles on it yesterday hanging tree stands...so far it's been the best investment I've ever made. It's the only new vehicle I've ever owned and I'm pretty happy so far. I had the dealer throw in a winch and a blade, so I don't expect to be shoveling snow anymore either (they didn't have the mounts, so I haven't installed them yet, but can't wait to start wrenchin').
About me: I'm a 38 year old electrical engineer with a wife and two kids, and they love the new "toy" as much as I do. I'm a moderator on a sportbike forum, so I'm no stranger to forums. I also own two Kawasaki Ninja sportbikes (2004 ZX10R & 2004 ZX6RR)...both green, of course.
I'm pretty mechanically inclined and do all of the service and maintenance on my bikes, car, and truck...I expect the quad will be no different.
I've been wanting to teach my kids to ride motorcycles (they're 7 & 9), but have been worried about them having a lack of throttle control. The ATV seems like it will be a good teaching tool because they don't have to worry about shifting yet. It seems like my boy (9) will get the hang of it pretty quick...my daughter will take a bit more time. Of course, they are not allowed to ride it by themselves...just push the throttle (I did let my boy steer a little bit).
Here's a pic I took with my phone just after I picked it up Saturday...I hadn't even had it out of the truck yet.
