Hi all,
I just picked up a well used 1985 TRX250 fourtrax for a father-son project. It is pretty complete and seems to run good, but it smokes really bad. I will probably be doing the top end, and my question is:
Will I have to remove the engine to pull the head and cylinder, or is there a trick to doing it while still in the frame? I just ordered the service manual for it, but wanted to get started on it asap. I appreciate any suggestions you may have, Thanks, Ken

Welcome to the forums.

It's been a long time since I worked on one of those, but I'm pretty sure you can pull the valve cover, head, and cylinder jug without pulling the engine.

Thanks for the fast reply. I managed to get the valve cover off, but it looks like the head and cylinder will hit the frame, unless I can get the long studs out of the block first. Back to work....:frown:

Should be able to leave it in. I remember helping my friend with his 250r 3-wheeler 4-5 years back and he did not pull the motor. Don't know how different those are?
