Hey folks. Just bought a 2007 rancher. Smokes pretty bad and thinking it needs the top end rebuilt. Would like to do it for as little as possible but I’m well aware of the “you get what you pay for” slogan. Of course I see a lot of after market parts and the Honda parts which have a large gap in price range. Does anyone recommend an after market product or is oem the only way to go. Thanks.

Hi Jacob,

I also just purchased a 2007 420. Mine smoked like crazy. Took the head off and was going to buy a eBay kit, but started reading here and ended up going to a local bike machine shop.

The guy is boring my Honda cylinder .30 over, ordered a correct new piston and rings, and will also re-surface my valves and put in new valve seals. He ordered a top end kit (similar quality as Honda, he does all the machine work for about 14! Local dealers), and the head w Parts is 206, and another 60 for the valve work. So all I need to do is put the parts back on. I know the eBay kit was like 170, but I’d rather run the Honda head....

Call your local Honda dealer and ask if they bore out cylinders, my dealer was nice enough to gave me this machinists number.

Good luck!

you better pray your atv was never sunk ?, if it was ?, then your wasting your cash on a top end rebuild. until the motor is split, cleaned all out ?, your just wasting time and money. did you check the connecting rod while its torn down for any play ??. if the rod is bad ?, well..again..your wasting money and time.
