Thanks for letting me join!!

I just picked up a 2000 Fourtrax TRX300FW and have had....and will have lots of questions. It needs some work but I'm excited to have it. I needed something for around the house and ice fishing when the lakes don't have snow.

Welcome aboard. Zenith blue was a 96/97 only colour so I assume either the plastic was changed at some point or your machine is not a 2000? Might want to pin that down before ordering any parts there are some differences between the 94-97 models and the 98-00 models.

Hmm.....I have attached a few pictures of the VIN...plus the engine serial number. Along with a picture of a "color code" found under the seat on the fram. Any insight you have on the year would be appreciated. I see this color code sticker says TRX300FWY. Any thoughts on the "Y"?

Thank you!!

hmmmmm. it is a 2000. Y means 2000.

PB-258 is the colour code for Zenith blue.

I've only ever seen 96-97 models that colour and the parts diagrams show the same. Mind Blown. Carry on lol
psssstttttttttt..'' whispers in macs ear '' even the sticker says 2000 !..rofl.

First zenith blue 300 I've ever seen newer than a 97 shady, not hard to swap plastics but the colour code decal ties those fenders to that machine.
all good bro !, even I learn new stuff on here every dang day !..lol. @ OP, be warned, most sellers claim that all parts for all years say they will fit ?..THEY WONT !..LOL.

Thank you for responding! I'm just learning about these so bare with me.... My father owns an '88 2x4 (purchased new) and its bullet proof!!! That's really why I've been looking for one. I've had other wheelers in the past but wanted to get back to something simple, reliable...and AWESOME.

In the little digging that I have done... I see where the TRX300FWY comes up often as a CANADA bike...not sure if that means that model is manufactured or sold there. I'm in the northeast so I would not be surprised if that was the case.

I've also seen a few things about "Robin Egg Blue" or "Southern Blue". Not sure if those are the same or not.

All good stuff...I enjoy the history. Thank you! If most of it is original I would be excited. It needs a few things in order for it to be running smoothly. Nothing huge... front wheel bearing, upper arm ball joint...new carb (mostly because I don't want to finick with the old one). I'm looking forward to getting it going and working on fixing some of the plastic.

I highly doubt you will locate a oem carb from honda ?, DO NOT TRUST SELELRS ON EBAY OR AMAZON CLAIMING THIER CARBS ARE OEM !!. your best bet ?, buy a shindy carb rebuild kit, rebuild the old oem carb !!!!. take my word on this !!. again..DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON FAKE CARBS !!!.

New carbs are still available last I checked, right from Honda. Partzilla has them, 265 and change there about. I’d probably rebuild the stocker too, but new OEM is an option. Also the 350 Rancher carbs work, I think. Don’t quote me on that.

yeah, newer years on the trx300 carbs might still be around, but older models are not, ask me how I know ?!..lol. i'd pay 20 something bucks for a shindy carb rebuild kit before I paid almost 300 for a whole new carb.

how does the trx350 rancher carb work on the trx300 engines when they have an air cut-off valve on them ?. wont this effect the engine ?. ( I have no idea here !..just asking ) :).

IIRC the air cut off valve cuts air to the idle circuit on decel to prevent backfire. Having that on there wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Rancher carb would require some tuning I would say that would be the downside.
