Ok first off I bounced on and off this forum for long time getting answer's. I finally made a account and joined up. My very frustrating question is this.

I have a 1987 trx250x and love this thing. I just don't understand it anymore.
So basically I can start it real easy normally 2-3 kicks warm and 5-6 cold. It idles great sounds good and the power is there but, when I hit the throttle half to almost full it does a rev like thing. To break it down it is like when your in reverse and you full throttle and how you get that reverse rev well that's exactly how it is when i half to full throttle. Now I cleaned my carb 3 times and swapped carb still does it. Tonight I took off the snorkel from carb to air box and it ran a tad better but still did it. I noticed that when I rev the bike and watched the rear of the carb it looked like it was spitting a lot of gas. If I take the carb off you can see some fuel sitting right there in the intake around the rubber mount. I thought it could been the float but, when I tip her back fuel flows out. I want to say carb but, two carbs I dunno. Any help is appreciated.

O to add to this the quad was fine all summer till the end and then this started.
Anymore info you need I will get it. Like I said it runs and idles like a champ and half throttle the power is there till a bit over half then it sounds like there is a rev limit on the thing.

I'm sure these guys will be able answer your question, but I have a very similiar issue. I have a 91 that I've been working on in the evenings for a couple of weeks, and I had the same exact thoughts about the carb - I rebuilt the carb (didn't fix the problem), ordered a new carb (didn't fix the problem). Checked the carb insulator and O-ring (those were fine). Had already checked the vacuum lines to make sure they weren't clogged. I finally decided the problem was electrical and pulled out the multimeter. I checked the stator, regulator, pulse generator, coil, and checked every single wiring connection - I finally came to the conclusion that the DC-CDI was the problem (whether I'm right or not, I'll find out in a couple of days when it is delivered). I also decided to get a new coil and pulsar at the same time. If you can wait till this weekend - I can tell you if that fixed my problem.

See I have done the same as you stated. The only thing I haven't changed over yet was the stator. Mine is also on order and will be here. It just boggles me because I have changed just about every electrical part minus head and tail light, the key ignition, and the on/off light cluster on the handle bars. Getting to be a pain.

I had it bored .50 over but like I said all summer it was nice.
Have a super trapp on and again it was all fine.
Put in new cam and lifters after all this started and still runs fine just that rev thing.
I timed it till my fingers bled and I even retarded the timing.
I adjusted valve lash many times and I even went out and bought the proper gauge for it.

The damn bike runs fun, idles fine, but does not like it above half without it reving.

Well you will probably get your stator first so let me know what happens. Maybe we can work this out. I am gonna go study my repair manual again.

First thank you all for welcoming me here. I have a new stator and I will try it tomorrow and let you all know the verdict. That is the only thing I have not changed yet and I am crossing my fingers.
