Hows its going guys? My name is Wayne and im from the New Orleans Area. Im a first time owner but long time rider. I work in a Chemical plant but do mechanic work on the side, most suspension and performance upgrades on cars/trucks. Monday i ended up picking up a 2012 Rancher 420 4X4 TRX420FM to use at my hunting lease in Homer, LA. The bike was in pretty good condition but my OCD isnt allowing me to just be happy with it the way it was.

It had a HMF "Red" Exhaust, HMF Optimizer & Master Lock Winch, other than that its stock. The exhaust was loud and the added power wasnt really needed for the little trails i ride at my lease and my 4yr old son isnt a fan of loud noises so it just made sense to remove the Exhaust & Optimizer and put the stock exhaust back on which i got with the sale too. The winch had the cable jammed in it so it was just eaiser for me to remove it completely in order to free up the cable. I got the cable off and figured i might as well get a new winch to put on the bike instead of going back with the one that came on the bike. After that was done the disassembly continued to give it a very good cleaning and a once over. Its pretty much spotless now as well as a order placed to replace a couple things and to do a full tune up. I ordered new upper & lower ball joints because the steering is very tight, I removed the tierods from the spindles and the bars more super easy so its the ball joints that are causing it to be hard to steer. Also have a couple grommets for the body pieces, extra keys, oil filter, oil filter cover gasket, drain plug washer, front back pads, inner CV boot, front grill, air cleaner, plug, & cv boot guards. Once all that comes in i plan to get all that installed, change all the fluids while tearing down all the suspension to clean and grease the bushing. I have a 20" LED light bar i plan to install, also have 2 LED Pods i may put on the rear. Once thats all finished i will either reinstall the Master Lock winch or get one from HF. Other mods that will end up on it is Front and Rear Basket Racks and Tires, if not wheels and tires and maybe a set of HIDs.

Like i said above, the bike will mainly be used at my hunting lease but some trail riding here and there would be nice too. I like my stuff clean so mud bogging and stuff like that wont be in the plans for me. My lifted trucks are cleaner than most corvettes on the road lol

I joined the site to learn somethings and to see how other guys have modded there bikes. Look forward to learn more about these bikes.

What's up Z7 ! ----- I am from New Orleans originally myself and now live on the NorthShore , good choice on a 420 foot shift , I see a lot of atv's in action and for the style riding I do they work well , even though it is not the kind of running you plan to do ----- But what a shame to have a 4 wheel drive truck and not get it dirty, we call them Concrete Cruiser , kind of like buying a new fishing lure and not wanting to get it wet , but to each his own , LOL ! Hope you stick around a while and show some pics , I love 4wd trucks

Z7What,

I'm originally from that general area and familiar with the Homer area. You will find a great group of folks here and do feel free to post a picture of the unit. I have owned a number of Honda 420 units, great machines and well-proven reliability. Since you are going through the bike, I would offer some additional items you may consider while doing preventive maintenance service: a) change the differential fluids front/rear; b) remove the rear brake cover and clean out the inside and c) adjust the valves.

Nice, I have a couple cousins that live on the Northshore, one of them actually owns a funeral house out there. I was born and raised in New Orleans but bought my own house in Reserve after have 6' of water in my parents house from Katrina. Now the Wife and I are looking to move in or around the Accension Parish area. Just can find a house already built that will fit my needs or a lot that would work but isnt 100K lol

As far as the clean trucks go, im just way to OCD lol. I mean if i need to get it a little dirty i will but you can bet your butt that its going to be cleaned asap. Im on my work computer so ill have to see if i can get some pics loaded up!

Thanks! I guess i did forget to mention that when i dive into it Sunday, if the parts come in by then i will be changing the diff fluids as well. With that being said the manual says to use Hypiod SAE80 but read that 80W90 is just fine as well. Is this true? I do alot of maintenance and work on Fords and have a stash of Motorcraft 80W90 Rearend fluid if i can use it. The PO said that he had the valves adjusted by someone he knew but you really dont know what to believe when someone is trying to sell you something you know. Is there a How-To? Ive done plenty valve adjustments on mowers so i cant imagine its much different. As far as the rear brake, i read in the manual i believe it was that you can pull the drain plug, if no work comes out then that means its sealed and your good to go. If water does come out then the seal needs to be replaced. I cant say that ive work on the rear brakes on a bike before so a how to for that would be great as well.

2003 F150 9"ish of lift with 37X12.50s, this was in the 2004 World Of Wheels. Took Home The Best In Class Trophy!

2 months later a drunk driver ran a stop sign and i t-boned him totaling it

Then build another 2003 F150 but went a little more extreme! 11"ish of lift with 38X15.50s, complete 2003 ford lightning supercharged engine, etc. The truck ran a best of [email protected] and a best 60' of 2.08 all with the 38"s and weighting in at 6800lbs. I know it had a 13sec pass in here but sold it before i got it there.

So being as i had 2 lifted 4X4s that stayed super clean, when i bought the truck i own now i thought you know since i didnt ever use the 4WD let me get a 2WD and spend the money i would on the 4WD on the luxury interior. Well not long after buying it i started hunting and fishing alot and now really wish i had 4WD. It gets me by but ill never buy another 2WD truck. Its 2013 F150 lifted 3"ish on adjustable coilovers with 33X12.50s. You would never know that i have more money in suspension on this truck than 95% of the trucks you see with 6-8" of lift. It doesnt look much different than your highschool kids truck with a $50 ebay leveling kit but the ride is where its different!

Just recently had it ceramic coated

Its not my daily drive so most of its life it stays under the cover and i drive my 01 Ranger daily.

What they say...Father Like Son?

And heres the bike!

Im a Ford guy no doubt but recently bought my wife a Dodge:eek never in a million years would have i thought i would own one but hey gotta give credit where its due. Dodge really stepped there game up on the new Durangos. I dont think Ford engines arent any more complicated than other makes.

Ford has been running OHC motors in the F-150 since 97. I think what you may be referring to is the cam phasers on the 3V 5.4L. Ill agree, the 3V 5.4L IMHO a terrible engine. The 2V 5.4L and current 5.0L engines are very reliable!

I would use it ------------ I don't even use 80-90 on mine , I run Lucas Hub Oil , used for wet bearings on heavy truck and trailer in my diffs and transfer cases that are running on oil and I run marine grease in my other ones

have you ever been in an Auto Parts store and seen the Lucas clear plastic display with gears that you turn and the Lucas oil travels up the gears and next to it is the same set up with conventional oil and it don't climb , the Hub Oil is thicker and clingier than that

I know exactly what turny thing your talking about. So this Hub Oil, you still use the factory suggested amount? I found it very shocking that the rear diff only takes 2.5oz of fluid and the front only 7.8oz.
