Hey folks!

Just picked up a '99 Honda Recon 250, 2wd, semi-automatic. Neat little machine. Runs great, no questions just yet, but I know I'll have some eventually.

Had one other ATV, an '03 Suzuki LTZ400. I traded a car for it figuring all ATV's were utility oriented. I was wrong. I swapped it for the Honda straight up. As far as I'm concerned, everything worked out fine. The Honda had a hitch on it, I got a ball for it, and it's already being used around our property to move trailers. While I haven't taken it back into our woods, the little woman has and loves it.

I ordered an aftermarket manual a few days ago, may come today. I hope over time to find a free and/or cheap factory manual download.

Not knowing much about ATV's, I'll be perusing the forums here trying to learn a little about how these things work, what sort of problems pop up, what are the best accessories, stuff like that. I'm a hobbyist welder and metal fabricator, do all my own wiring and such, do what I can with our car and truck, but am not much on computer stuff. Built a hot rod from scratch years ago, still driving that. Just finished restoring a classic fiberglass speedboat, running around on the Hudson River with that. I need another hobby, lol!

Great to see people put up forums like this. Where would we be without them?

Looks in good shape for a 99'. I had 2000 for about 9 years until my dad finally sold it. Under normal riding conditions, the Recon should never fail you. It always got me back home.

That's what people tell me JB. I'm clueless when it comes to ATV's, so if nothing else the 2nd time around worked out. It's got some squeaks that I'll be focusing on, but nothing that sounds real bad or is consistent. It runs well, starts right up, does the gears fine, just all around works well. I'm into maintenance, and my plan is just to maintain it, clean it up some, just take good care of it. That seems to serve me well with my vehicles.

Frogger420 - we're over in Coeymans Hollow, not too far away.

Pyetime, we get out to Rochester from time to time. My best friend lives in Irondequoit, just off Sea Breeze.

Love that Recon250. Need to fashion something else for a hitch, existing one is just a hole for a ball and is too low. Gonna buy a 2" receiver and make up something I can use my regular truck stuff in. Got some time off Friday, maybe do it then, but have some glass work to do on our classic speed boat too. Not enough time in the darn day!

Thanks MNRedneck. I hope soon to lift this ATV up and check for wheel play, see if it needs bearings, but it runs fine, just squeaks a bit, mostly up front. I got some power lube, need to get it in my garage for some lube on the shocks and bushings, see how that goes. I just like to make sure things are okay, and read here somewhere how to check bearings so will be doing that.

Shadetree, I agree already, this is a great site. I'll share what I can when I can, but don't know much about ATV's. I have an aftermarket manual coming that I hope tells me how to remove the racks. I want to refinish them, and maybe the body panels too. I wouldn't mind changing the color from green to red.

Hope y'all have a great day!
