Hello everyone, and thank you for letting me on to the forum!
I've had my 1995 TRX 300 4x4 for about a year and a half and I absolutely love it!
I'm the third owner. My dad bought it from an older woman in '06 because she no longer had the upper body strength to drive it.
He paid more for the Moose Plow he put on it than he did for the wheeler itself!
She only used it to haul out the deer she shot every hunting season and on very rare occasions aside from that.
My dad used it for plowing his driveway and nothing else.
He gave it to me a week before Christmas '17.
He told me he was too old to plow out in the elements and he bought a '00 Jeep TJ with a plow to plow his driveway with.
This Fourtrax is in excellent condition!
Very few scratches or scrapes, it's hard to believe it's 24 years old by looking at it!
Although I have had a few problems with it.
The front brakes need some attention.
I had to deal with (and still am, for the time being) a gas tank that is super rusty on the inside.
I got the majority of the rust out of it but I still have to clean the carb out on a pretty regular basis.
In the middle of plowing my driveway during the 2nd snowstorm after I got it, it puked up the rear final drive unit and all I had was front wheel drive and a rear drive that sounded like it ate rocks.
When I got the rear drive case open it was almost solid full of mud.
Both bearings on the pinion shaft were totally annihilated, I mean there were inner and outer braces but there was absolutely zero evidence of any ball or needle bearings whatsoever!!!
Needless to say, the gears were nearly toothless.
I did manage to rebuild it successfully for under $100(ring & pinion gears, all bearings, all seals, and the special pinion bearing retaining nut tool!)!
I also have what I'm assuming is the common problem of stripped shifter lever and shaft splines.
Is there a cheap solution for this?
Last week I had to replace the winch because after 20+ years, the Warn A2000 lifted it's last plow blade.
The halves totally separated, pulling the cross bar bolts through the end plate on the motor side and burnt all 4 brushes out of the motor after it kept winching in after I had released the button... It was a horrendous sound!!
It also broke 3 welds on the plow frame in the process.
So with a new Traveller 4000lb winch from Tractor Supply and some new welds, I'm back in business for the rest of the snow season!
After mud season(when trails are closed to ATVs) I plan to register it and actually use it like a 4 wheeler!
Thanks again, I'm enjoying the forum so far!

Welcome Maine , I watch the Northeast Law or what ever it is called , looks like they are pretty strict on you'll as far as 4 wheelers go --------- I got a 95 300 also along with a few other years , 300 is one of Hondas best ---- on that stripped shifter , I take it that it is past drilling a stripped thread in the shifter and installing a bolt and nut to hold it tight on the shaft , it is unorthodox by some , but a quick easy fix , do the nut and bolt fix ( for what ever good it does ) and tach weld the end of the shaft to the shifter , if the shaft is already stripped then if ain't going to hurt anything , wrap a wet rag between the shifter and the case to not get any heat to the seal , just a tach weld , don't melt it , if you ever need to open the case for another reason then replace the shaft at that time , a grinder will take the tach weld off in a flash if needed

I would take the easy route. take the shifter off, put it in a bench vise, take a hack-saw, slice another blade thickness down through the already slit after you compress the shifter groove closed, then when installed back on the motors shifter shaft, run a long grade 8 bolt all the way through the lever and put a nut and lock washer on the end, call it a day.
