First year Rancher; 00-03 year group. These things always need a great battery, a clean carb and good clutch adjustment.

Great ideas here, May I add a valve and cam chain adjustment, an air filter replacement and oil and filter changed. Check all hoses too. If it was running when parked these suggestions will probably get it running well.

I have a '00 Rancher ES 4x4 as well (all apart right now for a major servicing/cleaning/freshening), start a thread when you get ready to get yours running. Welcome to the forums!

Welcome great advice already and would add take the time to clean the tank week and I would go ahead and change the fuel lines.
