Hi Guys

New to this ATV world.

Have acquired my sons XTR300 1989 two wheel drive Quad
He passed away last year and I want to restore this as project for him.

Seems challenging to track down details on how thing fit together and where to get parts here in New Zealand.

Came across this Forum and seems like there is a wealth of knowledge I can hopefully tap into.

Regards
Alan

Welcome to the forums. I have family in NZ and as a good will gesture I will ship you one package for free if you need any parts for the build dedicated to your son.

ATV parts seem to be difficult to source in NZ, we have a few members sign up saying the same as you.

Keep me posted, PM me if your in need of assistance, I'll help out where I can :)

Thanks for the replies guys.
The old girl needs some TLC but it’s a labour of love.
I have pulled off fairings and rack from front to access the bottom of the steering shaft. She was a bit sloppy.
Discovered the bearing had disintegrated and the whole shaft could be lifted up.
In the process of removing the old bits from the shaft.

What actually holds the shaft to the bracket? Is there supposed to be a large washer under the nut?

welcome to the forums. yeah, inner tie rod ends slide up onto the steering shaft, then a washer and large nut hold that on. the steering shaft has two dust seals, a bearing, and a large snap-ring under the top dust seal. you must remove the snap-ring in order to hammer the old bearing out from the bottom up, and out of the metal bracket. its best you start a thread either in the repair section or trx section. we try to leave this section for intro's from new members :).
