Hello all. Just recently bought my uncle's 1987 Fourtrax 250. Going to have a few questions about the ride as I give it a little TLC and get it back to good running condition. Did a lot of searching already and it seems this forum has some pretty knowledgable regulars. Looking forward to it.

Thanks!

Oh and BTW my name is Kevin also, and my Uncle also has a TRX 250 I believe it may even be an 87!
That's crazy!! now all you need to do is buy it from him and you and me will be the same.
I tried before I got my 300 he won't let it go. LOL
Doesnt surprise me. it's amazing how many people I know or hear about that take their honda to the grave with them. Before I signed up here, I thought I'd be the only guy with an 87 or one that freaking old but no, a lot of people on here will run it into the ground, fix it, run it back into the ground but never let it go.

Oh yeah there are alot of older hondas running around.. because they pretty much don't die.. I don't imagine I'll ever get rid of my 300. Thats not saying I'll never have ANOTHER machine.. but the 300 will stick around.

Yeah they are real solid. I saw 3 of them over the weekend around here. a 250 and 2 300's. Farmers around here love to get a hold of them because they last for ever. Mine is in need of plastic real bad, but runs like a top. Everything works except the speedometer which I took off anyway.

The only reason that you don't see more of the Fourtrax 250s, like you do the Fourtrax 300s, is because they only made the Fourtrax 250 for 3 years and they made the Fourtrax 300 for 13 years.

I use to own two of the 250s when they first came out and in my opinion, they're just as tough as the 300s. Both are great ATVs.

yeah I made that correlation earlier when I saw they were only available between 84 and 87. Post 87, all 300s. My dad has a 93 fourtrax 300 and asked him if his has 4WD. he said "nope and it doesnt need it". haha. lots of power from these little guys.

Say, you said you used to have a speedometer? I dont have that on mine. Would mine have one, stock? I wouldnt mind putting a speedometer on it but was thinking I'd have to go aftermarket.

'85-'87 for the Fourtrax 250. In 1984, they made the Fourtrax 200 with 10 gears, 5 in low and 5 in high, plus reverse. I had one of those too.

The speedometer didn't come stock, they were an option.

Yeah the guy I got mine from had disconnected the cable.. I hooked it up to see if it worked and it didn't so I just removed it completely. It was kinda ugly and stuck out in the way anyway.
