i just got a 97 trx300 4x4 and replacing the motor and transmission first. debating between maxxis zillas or itp mud lites, any opinions on either?

also, trying to decide whether to paint the frame, racks, and plastics black or just use something like line-x on the plastics, racks, and frame? haven't seen any good pics of what final product looks tho. any experience on this?

any help is appreciated. i'm pretty new at painting and mechanical work

Welcome to the forums! My dad has a Yamaha Big Bear and he has ITP Mudlites on it they woek well but he only got them in one size bigger than stock. I think the line-X frame and racks would be COOL! Never seen it on a Quad butI have on a Jeep and it was like unscratchable. As far as the plastic my buddy painted his quad and it started flaking of and still looks like garbage so I have no advice on that Sorry.

If you intend on painting plastics you need to really clean it good with grease and wax remover then use a brown scotchbrite pad and rub the piss out of all the area you intend to paint. after that you need to get you some adhesion promoter and spray that on first let it dry and apply another thin coat on. after that prime it 2 to 3 coats let it dry, scotch brite agian and wipe it off with a clean lint free rag. Paint with the color of your coice and enjoy. But keep in mind your plastics are dyed and your painting it do don't expect it to take the beating an unpainted plastic does, it will chip or flake. If you follow the above steps it should last for some amount of time. check out my pics album "Not My QUad you will see what I'm talking about with the interior of my car. it's all custom

Yes it is alot of work to put into something that your just going to cover in mud and ride through the woods. you would be better off buying new plastics. there is a place on ebay that sells plastics in just about any color. That route would be best...:D IMO

i think i'm gonna go with the line x frame and racks. i've seen it on some jeeps and it does look pretty sweet. painting it sounds like a lot of hassle for only a little bit of cosmetic looks
