Hmm, maybe a little more cumbersome, I can't imagine it being so on the scale of a canam etc, the 500 still seems quite a small ATV for what it is.

But think how embarrassed you'll feel on a 500 when your old dad comes plodding past on his bog standard (and mint) 300. They'll all be saying "did you see that old guy on the as new 300 just sail past that young un on the 500 in the mud":biggrin::biggrin:

....to me taking a atv out and not getting it dirty is like taking out your boat and not getting it wet ....
I thought the little dry box on the back was to carry polish and dusters !!

I am surprised actually.. When there parked next to each other it's noticeable Isn't it, I'd only looked at them on online adverts etc.
As my 300 is actually taller and wider than my bosses 420 I assumed that the 500 wouldn't be that much bigger.

Just dug this thread back up... Since this thread I've done nothing but look at ATV's and trying to decide which I will buy next. I really do like the 500's but.... The price tag, £6000 new and a good, tidy second hand example would fetch around £4000 regardless of age and mileage. Hondas hold their value here in the UK.

So, a second thought, due to the price tag was a trx450. Can I ask for opinions? Are these a good ATV or are they full of hidden issues waiting to pop up on an unsuspecting buyer like myself?!
These seem to fetch £1800 to £3000, there aren't many around, assuming that's a good thing due to people keeping them. There are more 400's, any views on those as well?

Thanks all.

Only real issue I saw on the 450 I had was the oil temp sensor became erratic and the fan motor controller went wonky causing the oil temp light to come on and go back off randomly. Both needed to be replaced even though they still worked well enough to kick on the fan when it should.

Now that I'm thinking about it though... the LCD display reset itself back to zero miles/hours one blizzardy day due to a bad/corroding solder joint on the circuit board inside the display.

It was a reliable and strong running machine other than those minor issues. The stock tires gave it a rough ride, but once they wore out and were replaced, the ride became a lot smoother & easier on the back...

hmm following on from the original thread... i really quite like my rincon, im no mud bogger, but needed 4 wheel drive, but im still young and dumb and my style of drieving is mostly fast and skipping over things, and the rincon does exactly that, has the power to really throw it about, is still light enough to handle most situations with ease and the irs is really smooth, plus its a honda :D on the other hand one of my mates has an outlander 800 xtp, stupid expensive over here he paid £13000 for it, it absolutely rips!! buut when it goes wrong is another story.... parts aint cheap over here for can ams, SamUK haha your not wrong on them holding there value over here.... the 1st gen 500's seem to really well, my neighbour has one, bought it brand new in 2007, had 27 inch mudlites on it and it had plenty of power with them, he works it hard though and if it isnt towing stupid loads, its out getting its arse kicked on the limiter, mud you name it, haha his son even sunk it into a loch/lake once, went out on it on ice one winter, flat out donuts all that, next thing, poof gone, all we seen was him, quad completely under, couldnt see it, just him, what an absolute laugh, just the expression on his face! a wander the damn thing didnt hydrolock though, hes just stuck 28 inch bighorns on it now and in my opinion, too big, but it pulls them allright, tough quads though, all he's had to do is bushings and bearings in the last 10 years and i think the es angle sensor, right im rambling now i do apologise for getting carried away there :p but yea up here on the island the 450s and 500s are REALLY popular for crofting/farming work, seems every village you pass through youll see at least 1 or 2 450s or 500s flying about, and people never seem to sell them, just on my road alone theres about 4 or 5 450s, never really heard many issues with them as such, just regular maintenance, only major thing i heard was one of my mates tractors broke down, a MF 165 with i think a mower on the back, and decided it would be a good idea to try and tow it up a very steep croft he was working in with his 450es, it was running 27s at the time, pulled it no bother next thing bang, blew the crap out of the transmission, cant remember exactly what went, but it needed a full rebuild, apart from that, damn good quads, and us islanders are pretty stupid with ATVS... :D

Haha.. You guys sure do work those Hondas hard up there!! My only uses are around the stud farm and at the off-road parks, I'd just like a real nice tidy example of a machine to use at the stud so I have a machine for both uses. My 300 won't be ideal for work use really once my GR is fitted along with 28's and larger offset wheels.
I had thought that the 450's were the better ATV over the 400, I see quite a few 400's on eBay but rarely do I see 450's.

Hehe i see what you mean about the 300 allright.... :grin what kinda gear reduction are you going for? haha its funny that its the complete opposite up here! never really see many 400s about, but 450s on the other hand... 420s aswell seem to be getting reaally popular up here, but the 450s are a farmers/crofters favourite up here

Foreman 500 more power and most of all ground clearance, and more wheel choices.

Haha, yeah she's quite well modded now.. 54% GR is what I'm going for, I've got some 28's for it that we're free so that's a start, I may jump up to 30's during this winter though. 420's are quite popular here too, even my boss has one lol.
