i ended up with a free 2001 honda recon that needed serious help, i'v replaced all the bearings in the front and rear end,and tie rod ends, and also converted the front over to disk brakes. but now im working on the engine ive installed a oil cooler on it, and rebuilt the entire engine from top to bottom all new bearings, and piston, timing chain, rings, and so on, but can't get it to run right.
i know it is in time checked it twice, it is firing, and getting gas, when i start it it will run great at idle, but when i give just a little bit of gas it will start cutting out and serges unless the choke is on, but when it starts to rev up with the choke on it will flood unless the choke is off, so i cleaned the carb and re jetted it, still ran the same so i bought a new carb, and it still runs the same.
and on a side note i did install a snorkle on it, but right now it is uninstalled and the air box is out of it so i can work on the carb easier, but dosent change how it runs at all. i have checked the compression and it is pushing 170psi checked it 3 times to be sure any ideas?

Did you check your intake boot for leaks?

Can you get it to run with out the snorkle and the full air box? you went from snorkle to no air box, that is a dramatically large jump. The fact that it runs with the choke on makes me believe the jetting is off.

yeah i checked for the intake boot leaks but there was none and i just recently pulled the snorkel and air box off so i could work on the carb and figured i would leave them off till i got it running better the stock snorkel was a 3/4" and the one i put on it was a 1 1/2" so i went and jetted one size over but it never helped and it ran like that before i installed the larger snorkel.
running wise it makes no difference if the air box or snorkel is on it or not, it dosent change the tune of the motor at all ive tried the stock air box and snorkel but dosent change any thing, could it be my pilot jet? i have tried turning the idle fuel screw on the bottom of the carb but dosent change the tune of the motor either no matter how far i screw it out or in! it is driving me crazy

got it running better i swapped out coils and did some more adjustments to the carb now it just stumbles a little bit when accelerating i still haven't put the air box or snorkel on it yet but at least it runs now :icon_cool:
