Hey everybody!

Im new to the forum. My name is Matt and i live in Cold Lake, Alberta. I recently bought a 2002 400ex off someone i didnt know.(the one in the picture). Im looking for some advice on what maintenance i should do to the quad before i run it into the ground, i suspect the last owner didnt take very good care of the it. I already changed the oil, clean the air filter( it was FILTHY) and i changed out the handle bars cause they were bent... obviously someone roled it. Ive taken it out for a couple of rides and some small things ive noticed were, the throttle sometimes stick halfway and i have to really push it to get it past the sticking, but it does not stick on the way back ( maybe lube the throttle cable?) and also it sputters mostly on acceleration or if i hestitate on the throttle( a friend recomended jetting the carb, cause its and after market carb?.) thats pretty much it that ive been able to notice. Im pretty new to the atv world so i know next to nothing about maintenance...so any links/pics or descriptions would be greatly appreciated...anyways looking foward to some comments. Thanks alot!

Hello and welcome to the forums. Sounds like you need to either replace the throttle cable or try to lube it. As for the carb. It really needs to be cleaned good.

Welcome to the forums. I agree with Sub, but also check the carb throttle plate and linkage and make sure it's working freely.

Welcome to the forums ... I agree with SUB but also Keep in mind that an aftermarket carb is a PIA to set-up especially the Edelbrock form what I've heard. but definitely clean it if the filter was as bad as you say then more than likely the carb is too.

I don't know of any websites, but you can download a repair manual for the 400EX at this site.
