Whats up everyone? I just got what I thought was a smoking deal on a 06 400ex. I picked it up for 500 bucks and it has what I believe to be a seized motor. Going to build it and have a ripper
its in great shape other than the motor. I opened the motor up and the piston is trashed!! The local machine shop is going to clean up the cylinder and I will add a new piston with pump gas friendly compression. They are going to do a valve job on the head as well as some port and polish work. I figure mine as well do it right while I have it apart. Debating on sticking with the stock cam for now due to budget reasons... Am I going to notice a performance gain with the new piston and head work? Or should I do a stage 2 piston to realize any real gains?
Make sure you check the rod bearing before you do all that work to it. Try to move the rod up and down and watch for play at the big end of the rod. A little side to side play is normal, but any up an down play means your rod bearing is bad.
