I just purchased a new 2017 Rancher TRX420FM1.
The dealer offered a HondaCare extended warranty (4 additional years) for $1,120.
Is it worth buying the extended warranty?
One reason I purchased a Honda was reliability.

No one can predict the future in terms of whether or not the purchase would be worth it or not, so I understand the question/concern, been there done that with my Rancher. However, I believe with excellence maintenance, oil, differentials (front/rear), air filter, etc., along with valve adjustments from time to time you will be likely trouble free for many, many, years to come.

I don’t buy warranties because you’re basically financing a future, and most likely unneeded, repair.
However if they offer a prepaid service plan that works for me. Finance your maintenance intervals will enable you to get it in the shop on time

If you buy the warranty, you'll go broke trying to keep to the terms of the agreement..

Dealer maintenance is expensive... And thats usually what it takes to uphold the warranty..

A valve adjustment from a Honda dealer here is around $300... lol... You'll need at least 3 of those over 4 years.. Gear lube services are a stupid price as well..

I wouldn't bother.. The warranty will end up being $3000 in the long run..

The dealers hedge their bets that selling an extended warranty makes them more money on average. That means on average the people buying extended warranties lose money. I hedge my bet and NEVER buy extended warranty on anything I but.

Extended warranties are basically an insurance plan... on the more basic models there is less to go wrong... the more expensive and complicated the machine... the more the warranty makes sense!!! If it was a Polaris, Arctic Cat, or Can Am... I would recommend the extended warranty all day long!!! On a foot shift rancher... maybe not!!!

I'm not sure if you decided one way or another on the extended warranty...
I do suggest extended warranties on machines you are going to be using a lot. Even with regular maintenance, warranty problems can still arise unfortunately.
I work in a dealership out in CA. In the best attempt to not sound like a salesman, $1,120 for an extended warranty is very overpriced. The "suggested" rate for HondaCare on a Honda Rancher is $760.

I owned and loved a 2016 Honda Rancher. I put over 3200 miles on it, and over 341 hours. I purchased the extended warranty, but I never used it. Here's my YouTube report on my long-term ownership of the machine before I sold it. Could be sort of like a glimpse into the future of your Rancher, so-to-speak.
