Hello all im new to the site just thought i would throw a couple questions out there to you guys. I have an 04 ruby bought her brand new ripped a boot once other than that has been a pretty tough machine. I have 28 mudzillas and a 2" lift It has 500 miles on it all in the deepest nastiest stuff. But Everything else is bone stock the only way i can play is in esp 1 when ever I try going into 2nd she just doesnt have enough power. I have been doing a ton of reading and it seems jets and a slip on may get me where i want to be? Although I would still like it to be reliable. does anyone know what the main jet # is on the stock 04 and where i should look for a slip on? Do i go up a jet size at a time Im planning on buying a few different jets But i would like to have to only put jets in it once its not the funnest thing pulling that carb in and out. I only have 2 complaints about the machine seems a lil underpowered with28s and it rides like a Fn lumber wagon omg worst ride ever luls.

Welcomed to the forums. Well, I tried looking the jet size up in the service manual, but the problem is, I don't have an '04 manual. I just have a 2001-2003 manual and a 2005-2008 manual. I know this don't help much, but the sizes for those years are as follows:

2001-2003 = Main -158, Slow - 45

2005-2008 = Main - 162, Slow - 45

Jetting is pretty much trial and error, so you will probably have to pull the jets more than once, unless you get real lucky. A lot will depend on the pipe and air filter. I always keep mine stock and I'm not very good at guessing the jet sizes. If you could find someone with the same ATV and the same pipe, they might be able to get you close by using the same jets they used. You still might have to fine tune then, as every ATV and pipe are a little different.

Nice

Ya my luck that i buy that year thats the off year when i buy stuff for that rig its like the 04 doesnt exist haha Its a ghost. As for pipes im not sure What to get do the make like a spring loaded baffeled pipe? one that is pretty quiet until you get on it hard then opens accordingly? Im not looking to get a shit ton of power out of it it just needs a little bit more those 28's take alot of juice to push in the thick stuff IM sure the 499 could be awakened by a little jetting. And a slip on. Or can i just jet and omit the slip on ?

No, you can't jet without the aftermarket exhaust and an aftermarket filter is recommended too. If you increase the fuel, without increasing the air flow, it will run too rich. You have to keep the proper air/fuel ratio.

I'm not really sure about what kinds of aftermarket pipes are available. I always keep mine stock, so I don't really follow the pipe market any. Someone else should be able to help with that, though.

Yoshimura, HMF, Supertrapp are all quality pipes. Get ready to drop a couple bucks for any of them, even the slip ons. Don't know if your needle is adjustable, if not you will need a jet kit. Check E-bay you can usually find some decent deals on pipe and kit combo's. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
