I will start off by saying hi to everyone because I just joined the forum today. I am not much of a mechanic but I can fix minor issues and follow a schematic. I have an early 90s fourtrax 4 x 4. The problem is that it dies everytime I ride it. It starts really good and idles good and runs good but sporatically dies. Sometimes I can ride for miles and it will be fine then it will just die. Other times it dies every few minutes. I thought at first that I had some debris in the gas tank so I took it off and flushed it out and cleaned the filter but that didnt help. I have had a few backyard mechanics look at it and try various things but to no avail. I am seriously considering sending it to a real mechanic but hate to drop a ton of money on the bike when it may be something I can fix myself.
Any help or advise would be appreciated.

Just my 2Cents but have you tried cleaning the carb itself by removing and taking it apart and cleaning the jets and ect. Did it start back up after it died or did you have to wait a few before starting? Welcome to the forums.

Welcome to the forums. sounds like maybe some trash in the carb, take the bowl off the carb and clean out the jets and bowl real good and give that a try.

One of the backyard mechanics said he cleaned the carb but I dont know to what extent. I think I will start with that. It usually starts back up after it dies and it might be important to note that it even dies when I am at full throttle or close to it. Thanks

My money is on an electrical problem. Try the cheap stuff first. Take apart all and any connectors that have to do with the ignition including the wiring to the handlebar switch. Clean them and reconnect with dialectric grease. If that fails, it could be a coil or module.
