The story is ive bern looking for a atv to set up for shooting/spotlighting rabbits foxes kangaroos ect. Atvs here are worth a mint looking at $500-1000 for a run down 80s model ect.

2 popped up on gumtree for $1000 that i swear id seen on facebook a month or so before for $700. Old mates bought these and couldnt get them going i rocked up in the dark and paid $800

So i go a 2000trx350 fe and a 90ish 250 suzuki. Plans to sell the 1 i didnt use

No pretty much everything on this honda is dead. Rear axle was stripped. Front diff has a collapsed bearing so it wasnt spinning the rust is insane. The starter motor and shift motor brushes were worn to nothing. No friction material on front shoes. And the outside lip of the rims are rusted off.

So im just going through it now doing what i can without spending much on it. So far ive put a bearing and seal kit in the front. I welded the rear diff up (if it dies ill do a better fix later) made brushes for the shift motor and starter. Just waiting on a shift sensor. Needed a new rear brake cable as it was seized solid along with the pedal.
I pulled the motor today to sort the rust also pulled the carb and the bowl has some big hunks or crap in there.

Anyways ill update when i do stuff and ask for help when i need it. Second hand parts are hard and expensive to get here. I might need to try and get some stuff out of the states. If anyone had a dash display and wants to send to aus id be interested as mines cooked. Anyways heres some pics of the ugly pink thing

I think your frame is toast , I think it is rusted thin the entire bottom length , not only where you can see thru it but all over , if you take your thumb and then a screw driver and put pressure on the tubing , I think you will find it bends in easy

Your project certainly looks like a handful—not something you’d be able to ride this season.

Are ya thinking you’ll part it out over there? Pull the motor apart? Maybe take a bit of sting out of the ordeal.

I think you got the right idea with this project, patch it up and keep using it. You spend a small fortune rebuilding it and it would still do the same job.
Looks like the previous owners have it a super hard time!!

Ive got a length of 32mm erw tube the plan is replace the bottom rails. It had a ally plate under the bottom im not sure if they all do like a full length skid plate even under the steps. It would if sat full of cow poo and just rusted out. Its your typical dairy farmer quad

I know its not a honda but can anyone tell me roughly what year this 250 suzuki is. Has a reverse lever on the motor case near brake. "He didt even try to start it" then tells me its got spark though i took the pull starter off and gave it a few more turn sprayed some carby cleaner in it and it zoomed to life. Still a $1000+ bike running and moving here

Strap the the tubing and put a skid plate on it , and it will last ---we use to tease a guy that rides with us , his frame was repaired several time , I use to say " be sure we got two ropes to pull both pieces of Vics bike back " , I wound up buying that bike form him and re-framing it , it is still going strong ---Mad Max - Road Warrior ----- I would like to think if I had to keep one going , I could come up with some ideas with a welding machine , tie wire , a big funkin' hammer and some duct tape

You might look at Powersportsnation.com and call them and ask if they'd ship parts down under.

I've shipped a few parts to Sam in the UK. Parts are cheap here but shipping gets VERY pricey, especially on packages that are big or weigh much (a diff, for example).

I've got a used front diff and front driveshaft off from my 2000 Rancher FE with about 4300 miles on it. It appears to be in good condition. The oil was very clean (it had sat for 10+ years in a garage), all bearings and seals are good, gears look good, etc. If you're willing to cover the shipping cost to your address in AU you can have them! If you choose to include the cost for OEM axle seals, I'll buy them and install them for you... ships fast by the carrier of your choice. PM me if you're interested in free gratis stuff.

Thanks for the offer mate but ive put a seal and bearing kit in this 1. Ill see how it goes though.

Ive been cutting and welding. At first i thought id stick weld it. Then remembered i am terrible at it so i bite the bullet and bought a little gas bottle for my mig. Quite abit better. I think ill cut some tube in half to weld over the joins aswell. Welding old rusty steel sucks compared to new stuff i weld everyday haha

You have to remember that frame swaps here are easy, because frames are easy to find.

Down under I'm guessing finding a decent used Rancher frame that didn't cost both arms and a leg would be like finding someone with a working brain in Washington DC.

It ain't happening.
