jon and i were riding on the back roads pretty good speed an the 300 started making a grinding noise in the crank case before we got stopped she blewup motors is locked up big crack in bottom case plug gap pounded flat not sure what happened bu today we are installing a 98 300 motor i picked up from a friend when i get back to work we are going to look for a new upgraded motor or try to build one so i will need help frm all you guys on what specs to go to you all are so very helpfull so i guess it is R.I.P MONSTER the new motor smokes a little should i go ahead an put new rings in it :frown::redface:

It would probably be a little easier to put the rings in the engine while the engine is still off the frame.

Sorry to hear about the monster, but the good nes is you have another engine on standby. I think I would run a compression test n the new engine you may just need to replace the valve seals. but never the less I think while it was frame off I would go ahead and freshen up the engine a bit, eg new piston and rings if the cylinder walls look clean and smooth you may get by with a rering?
you other engine sounds like you might have lost the oil pump and it siezed up the crank bearings and snapped the connecting rod.
