I have a Honda Foreman ES it has a place where you can put a manual shift lever on it would that work so that I could shift it with my foot if I so desired.
What makes it occasionally get stuck between gears I thought that might help that as well.

Welcome to the forums. I have heard of people doing that, but I don't know how well it works. You couldn't use a regular foot shifter, because that shaft doesn't have splines, it's hex shaped. You would have to fab up some sort of shifter.

Have you tried retrieving the trouble codes to try to figure out the problem? If it's a 2003-up, the computer stores trouble codes when the electric shift malfunctions.

Sorry I thought I listed the year it is an 01 thanks anyway. I know someone else has had this happen I can shut it off turn the ignition back on and it will shift then back down to neutral maybe a while before it does it again.

The '01 doesn't store trouble codes, but it sounds like the angle sensor. That's just a guess, but the angle sensors are common problems on the ES model. Sometimes, you can unplug the plug from the angle sensor and clean the terminals with electrical contact cleaner and it will fix the problem, sometimes not.
