Alright, let me start off by saying I have a 1995 Honda Foreman TRX400FW. I have something wrong with the front left CV joint as figured out here: http://www.hondaatvforums.net/forum...ud-clicking-noise-coming-front-left-axle.html

I was just wondering that in the meantime (before I replace that part) if it is possible to somehow disconnect the front wheel steering? Seeing how there appears to be no issue while coasting I would think that making it a 2WD would still be O.K. to ride while not furthering any damage.

Any other ideas to go ride it still? What will riding it while its clicking do?

I think that would work. You would have to remove the front driveshaft and both front axles. You would need to take the axles apart at the outer CV joint, because you would need the axle stubs to stick back into the knuckles to hold the wheels on. You could leave the front diff or remove it, doesn't matter.

Before you try it, check the output shaft where it exits the front of the engine and make sure the seal, seals around the output shaft instead of the driveshaft. If it seals around the driveshaft, instead of the output shaft exiting the engine, it wouldn't work because it would leak oil. I'm pretty sure it seals around the output shaft on the 400, so it should work.

You can get aftermarket half axels fairly resonable if you prefer 4x4. they are fairly easy to change. If you convert too 2x4, take out all unused parts to make your front as light as possible. It will go a lot farther in mud and handle a lot better.

Thanks for your guys suggestions!

My grandfather uses it for deer hunting, so crawling up high hills in 1st is a must for him. He barely uses it though, and as long as I can still make it up hills if I give it enough speed I have no problem with a 2x4.
