magneto problems???

replaced rope that broke for pull start and before i put it back together I sprayed wd 40 all over the flywheel and magneto wheel assuming it could use it. could this cause problems with a wire in there being wet or something now not clean. is there something im missing. i dont know much about these. it seems like it wants to start but wont turn . something with spark or wheel magnet ?????? please help.
