What are your thoughts on them? I feel like my 400ex sits pretty high in the rear. Compared to my buddys 400ex (its highly modded but he said the rear suspension hasnt been touched) i sit about 2" higher. Ive been thinking about just lowering the rear for a little better stability and better stance. I do pretty much all types of riding. I saw a lowering kit for about $100 bucks for jus the rear and wanted to know what you guys thought about them. Ill try and put a pic in here of how it sits now.

I don't think its adjustable but I'lll look it over this weekend. I was just wanting to lower it maybe 2" or so and this kit Honda 450R and 400EX rear lowering kits is adjustable from 1.5-4" I believe. It says dont take large jumps when lowered all the way due to the possibility of bottoming out but I dont think I;d have to worry about that if it was just slightly lowered. It looks like it retains the same amount of travel, it just starts the travel from a lower point. It'd be nice if i knew someone who had tried one before.

The problem with that is you are removing your linkage. I would not use it.

I recommend going this route, GT Thunder Rear Linkage 400EX, it actually lowers your quad and at the same time puts your rear shock in a better position to work properly.

Im not too familiar with how exactly the suspension is setup but Im guessing that by just removing that link I'd be going the cheap route and not get a very useful product? I dont want to just take the cheap route, but I dont need to spend money are high dollar parts that are really only needed for specific applications like racing.

The rear linkage was the best upgrade I have done to my quad. It lowers your center of gravity, Believe me you WILL love it. Worth every penny.

Looks like long travel shocks on the front and your rear shock is cranked up to compensate. plus you got some BIG tars on the rear. lol

I was told the front shocks were off a 450r, but whatever they are I love them. Going from a 300ex to this is like upgrading to a cadillac. Is the stock rear suspension adjustable? The tires are only 20" lol I dont wanna lose all my ground clearance.

I believe the stock rear shock is adjustable for preload on the 400EX.

I have a 2003 400ex with a CRJ performance rear lowering kit (adjustable).....it works great....well worth the $88....o and don't worry about the jumping thing....I jump mine all the time and ride super aggressive through big whoop sections....it actually gives you a little bit more wheel travel cuz it puts the shock in a more vertical position...stock travel is 9.1" and I just finished measuring mine with 9.625"....if you buy the lowering kit, let me know and ill give you a few important measurements so you don't destroy your airbox like I did the first time around lol the best way to go would be the gt thunder xc linkage (they claim 10.5" of travel) but that would cost you $345 cuz you have to get your shock re-valved and re-sprung too....let me know which route you go...

Well I definately don't want to spend $350 to get the back lowered im not that serious of a rider. I finally had a chance to compare mine to another 400 today and realized the preload on mine is set pretty high. I've got about a half inch more preload than my buddys going by the number of threads left at the top. Where can i find the tool to adjust the preload? The two nuts are stuck pretty tight, channel locks wouldnt get em loose and i tried a screwdriver and a hammer and couldnt budge it without feeling like i was going to tear somethin up.

I have the XC linkage on my 450 with stock rear shock, it is not revalved or resprung. They recommend doing so for optimum performance, but I have never bottomed out the rear end since getting the linkage

Well I'm happy with how a stock 400ex sits, its just that mine has more preload so its sits up higher. I'd just assume go back to stock settings, maybe get a lowering kit in the future. Im in college right now and getting lower than stock isnt on top of the priority list.
