Need to tighten the lower stem nut. Seems to loosen up every little while. Plan is to add some loctite blue one so I don’t have the issue. What size is the nut. Partzilla says 14mm but it’s way bigger than that.

Assuming this is a 300 it would be far easier to add the cotter pin to the castle nut. Thread lock is a bad idea in such an awkward place.

Edit: 14mm is probably the thread size, so it would be 21/22mm

Needs to be tighter then I’d say, turn that but until the next available hole shows up for the cotter pin.

19mm wrench fits the 420's and 500's. Not sure about the smaller bikes.
I can’t remember either, it’s been a while since I replaced mine, was a real PITA too!

I would guess you are talking about the lower steering shaft nut , you think maybe the reason it is loosening up is because the steering arm is wallow out now from being loose before , maybe try a new arm

I think what the Original post was asking is , which one to use , a 14mm thread nut for a 4x4 300 steering , or a 12mm nut for a 2x4 300 and not the size of the hex , I maybe be wrong !
he asked in first post, size of nut, i read it 3 times..but I've had a long day..lol.

I think some people make that mistake all the time , they call the nut by the thread size ----- I think that is what happen here -----

I had a problem back when with my steering arm being loose , it was brought on by a PO bearing problem , but from riding it loose I had to change the arm , also changed the shaft but for another reason , it was the wrong shaft for the bike , that was a fiassco

Sam was spot on, partzilla and your manual tend to tell you the thread size of the nut. Why? Idk sounds pretty stupid and can confuse some people *cough* [guilty] glad you got it figured out.
