easy fix, but takes time. front drive shaft needs to come out, then with a seal pry tool, pry the old seal out, tap new seal in. you will need to unbolt the front differential, and pull it forward, in order to remove the front drive shaft.

I assume that the gear oil should be drained prior to removing the seal?
no, you can pry the seal out, without draining the gear oil. you may or may not lose a little gear oil ?, depends on how full you have it ?, and at what angle the front end is in ?, if you raise the back end ?, it helps keep the seal end higher , but I never worry about it, if I need to replace that seal on something I am working on ?, I just do it like it sits, if I lose any gear oil ?, I just replace it, no biggie.

same thing goes for a front drive output shaft seal at the front cover engine side ?, you may or may not lose motor oil when you pry the seal out ?, but it's not much if the frame is tilted ? or your quick ?..lol.

at that point, you might as well just order a front differential seal kit and pull the differential and replace the side seals as well.
you don't have to pull the differential to change out the side seals ?, you can do this while its in the frame :). now, if your doing bearings ?, then yeah..lol.
