Hey my buddys 99 300ex is having trouble starting and we are fairly certain the kill switch is shot (if you move it when cranking it fires for a sec but wont start). Before buying a $100 part is it possible to by-pass or hotwire that switch to stay on? We mainly use the key to shut it off anyways. He had it apart tonight and was messing with it but was too afraid to start splicing wires.

Im sure you can bypass it. the black leads to the key switch the black/white leads to the CDI and the Yellow/Red leads to the solenoid that goes to the start buttn I think. you need to close the circuit between the key and CDI I would think you connect the black to the black white in order to bypass the red slide switch. this is from memory so I could be incorrect on the wire colors.

Yeah, I know for sure the kill switch can be bypassed, but I don't know the colors of the wires, I would have to be looking at it to figure it out.

well we tried to bypass the switch, still tries firing but its right after we disconnect the wires, when it should be shutting off. Also cant get any spark but the coil is for sure good...any ideas?

My guess would be the CDI, but that's just a guess.

Well you are correct. His absolutely would not run until we swapped in my CDI and now it runs perfect. Just for schlitz and giggles we put his CDI into mine and mine runs just fine with either CDI (mines 2000 his is a 1999, but same dif). If someone can explain to me how that works I'll be impressed.

Well, that's a good question, which I don't have an answer for. I have no ideal.

It might have been a bad connection and when you switched them out it made the connection and started working.

Yep definitely a connection issue.... I always do the wiggle test to make sure I don't spend money on needless parts. and use lots of Die-Electric grease on all electrical connectors.
