I have a 92 fourtrax 300 2wd and I have replaced the clutches. The side case cover is still off and when I activate the kickstarter the outer part of the centrifigal clutch spins and the entire manual clutch spins but it does not try and turn over the engine. my question, does something magicaly, mechanically or electrically happen when I replace the cover that allows the kick starter to turn over the motor?

Welcome to the forums! I've heard of your issue before in another post on here but I can't seem to find it right off hand. However if I remember its something to do with how something is lined up on the kick start shaft maybe? I dunno, but someone who DOES know WTF they are talking about will be along shortly! LOL

It sounds like you put the one-way clutch bearing in backwards. The one-way clutch bearing is located on the inside of the centrifugal clutch. Just take the centrifugal clutch back off and take the one-way clutch bearing out and flip it over. It is labeled as one-way clutch in the diagram below.
ADDED: If you didn't have the one-way clutch bearing out, then the one-way bearing is bad.

Many thanks to all that replied!! Perhaps I should stay away from the Vodka when I do a teardown.
You're welcome. If that don't fix it, let us know, but I'm pretty sure that's the problem because there's nothing else that can cause that.

Helmut is right that is the ONLY thing that can cause that.
