Hey all I have a 2007 Honda Rancher 400AT and installed a power kit consisting of a k&N filter, Outwears pre-filter, and the Dynojet jet kit. As soon as I installed the kit I started to get problems with the engine surging at about 3/4 throttle. I took the carb apart and cleaned everything and double checked my jets and sizes and its all good. I did find one strange thing though, as soon as I clean the filter and install it dry with the pre-filter the thing runs great. When I oil the filter, engine starts surging. Anyonme else experience similar problems and can I get away with not oiling the filter?

sounds like you are running to much oil on it, those things are not ment to have alot of oil in them, i would not run it without any oil though they are way to porus for that... have you tried it with a oem filter? does it run good everywhere else? you may have to move the needle jet clip to make it a little richer.

If you bought this kit for the 04-05 rancher 400 that may be your issue but I doubt it. what main jet did you use? if you put the 150 jet in take it out and install the 146 use all stock spacers and the Dynojet washer goes above the E-clip on the needle. Turn the pilot screw in until it seats and back it out 3 turns for below 5000 feet elevation and 2 1/2 turn above 5000 ft. Hope this helps.

The reason it runs good with the stock filter is because the K&N is letting more air through so it leaning it out. drop the main jet and you should be fine.

Dude I just read my post again I totally botched it...LOL if it runs good with the stock filter and you put the K&N on you need to step up the main jet not drop it I can't believe I did that. sorry about that. if you have a 150 in now go up to the 155 and try it.
