2004 Honda Rancher 350 ES. Bought a new carb and installed it myself after some issues with the prior one. Should my ATV fire up right away or is there anything else specific I need to do?

I primed it and then opened the drain screw to make sure fuel was coming through. Still could not get it to start and run. A couple of times it sounded like it was going to start then just quit.

Also have a 2005 Honda Foreman, the gear shifter pedal just broke when I loaded it into my truck yesterday afternoon, who do you recommend for parts, should I go OEM or is there a nice aftermarket shifter anyone would recommend?

Thank you

Did you buy an OEM carb or an aftermarket? If it's aftermarket you need to send it back and replace it with OEM.
If you search this forum you'll see that aftermarket carbs are a weekly occurrence, there junk.

why in the world do owners always think, when it won't start, they just assume its the dang carb ?..lol. oem carb ?, or ebay china junk ?, go oem..stop supporting the china crap !. last but not least..try checking all the other things on your rancher, like compression, timing, spark..BEFORE YOU GO SPENDING CASH ON PARTS THAT YOU THINK MIGHT FIX IT ?!.

Make sure you have spark and airflow, probably will work fine with OEM carb unless it was really gummed up, but I have brought carbs back from the dead several times.
