so I went out and rode my 700xx tonight after work and when i came back I took the cap off the oil tank and the tank is clear full of oil right up to the top? so I wanted to know is that normal? and could it have been because the engine was still hot when I went to check the oil?

Have you had a chance to download the Free 700 service manual yet? Check it out if you havent, it will answer a ton of questions for you. It recommends that after a 5 minute idle you turn the machine off and immediately check that the level is towards the top of the stick, dont screw the dipstick in pull it out clean it off with a clean rag then just set it in the tank to get an accurate reading. You'll find the download in the Honda ATV Schematics / Manual Help section on the forum.
