Is rubber plug needed

Trx350TE 2006. In process of doing a carburetor cleaning and there's no rubber plug inside the bottom of the unit. Is it needed? Will it cause gas to leak out the overflow? Thanks

This is a pic of an older carb--but it has the plug similar to what you've mentioned?
I say yes you need it but I don't know what will happen w/o it. Do you have the manual?
