Hey yall. I was a little bored so I was just looking at rims and tires for an atv with irs. What hit me was the offsets. Can the irs atvs still run the wider rims like the solid axle ones? or should both the offsets be the same and keep the same width tires?

I would think but not sure that the inside offset would have to be smaller because of all the added stuff for the IRS. You could have a wider tire and wheel but it would stick out past the finders. You may be able to get buy with a little deeper inside but not much. Im not a 100% on the IRS suspension im just going by the way things look from the back. Im sure someone on here has way grater info than me on this.

You can run solid axle rims on an IRS but you cannot run IRS rims on a solid axle. The offset of the IRS rim is to the positve side pushing the tire in towards the chassis. So as long as the offset is to the negative you can run wider rims. I have put a set of aftermarket tires and rims from a forman on my Rancher AT all it did was push the tire out farther from under the wheel wells., but I now run stock width on 27" tire with aftermaret rims but to be honest I don't know my offset with out going out and measureing. I just told the guy what bike I had and that was the offset he ordered for me and the tire sit under the fenders like they are suppost to.

I just went through all this myself. If you run SRA rims on an IRS machine, the rears will stick out quite a bit. If buying aftermarket wheels, like ITP's most sizes will be 7" wide for a 4x110 bolt pattern, though 8" may also be available (I don't know if you can get them for a 4x110 pattern). For IRS machines, the front and rear wheels will have the same offset...for a 7" wide wheel, this will typically be a 5+2 (though 4+3 may be available for some bolt patterns). What this means is that the mounting surface, the part that contacts the hub, will be 5" from the inside plane (lip) of the rim and 2" from the outside plane.

On a SRA machine, the same aftermarket wheels will have a 5+2 offset on the front, and a 2+5 offset on the rear (still a 7" wide wheel). This means that each back wheel will stick out 3" further than the intended wheel, and the total rear width will be at least 6" wider than the front (which would already be narrower even if using the proper wheels). After all is said and done, the rear will be closer to 8" wider than the front if you put SRA offset wheels on a IRS machine...unless of course you put the same offset wheels on front and back, in which case your atv would be reeeally wide and hard to handle.

Conversely, you cannot put IRS wheels on a SRA machine, they would rub on the plastics/frame.

The SRA machines have a much narrower hub-to-hub width on the rear. This is to help keep the solid axles from bending. Since the axles are shorter, the mounting surface of the wheel is moved inward to compensate.

I can't feel any difference between these and my stockers. I'm guessing that the added weight of the tires was offset by the reduced weight of the aluminum wheels.

Hey guys I just got a set of itp wheels for my 2019 Honda Rubicon 500 irs and they have a 5+2 offset on front and rear but the rear is sticking out like 3 inches past the fender on both sides. How can I fix this or make the front match the width. I'm lost and could use all the help I can get. Thanks

I hate itp wheels.
Your 5 + 2 itp wheels are 4 +3 if you measure them. I had a pair of them for the rear of my rubicon and traded em for stock wheels as they stuck out too far.
The stock rear wheels are 6 + 1.5, real 5 + 2 wheels are close to stock, it'd be nice if someone made em that offset.

I run stock wheels because they're about the only thing available in the proper offset, you could put your tires on the stock wheels. The stock wheels off a yamaha or suzuki work too.
You can add 1 inch spacers to the front to make the front wider but the only reason the rear is wider than the front is your rear tires are wider. I have the same width tires front and rear (27x9x12) and the front is the same track width as the rear.

If I was to put a set of 26 x10x12 tires on all around and add 1-in spacers to the front would that even out the look from where the rear sticks out past the fenders??

If the rims are the same front and rear and the tires are the same width front and rear on an rubicon the back is the same width as the front, just like a car or truck.
