My ignition switch on my quad is a little fickle. Relatively often, in neutral, you have to fiddle with the key a bit to get the light to come on and start it. It is purely related to the switch itself. The issue is that I can buy a new switch, but its very unlikely the key will fit.

Are there any solutions for repair or the old switch or messing with a new one such that I can have my original keys (that also fit the handlebar lock AND helmet holder)? Worst case is I just have to carry two keys, and really its just a minor thing (I dont have a helmet and I don't lock my quad bars), but I was curious before I bought a new switch.

It's tough to source a specific lock cylinder for an older quad. I would guess it's possible; could try acquiring a spare ignition set and disassemble it to understand how you might swap the cylinder or fix your original. It might just be dirt in there; I would use contact cleaner rather than WD40

Hmmm.....LOL.

OK...I think you guys may have just saved me a bit of money. Some black dirt came out, switch is crisper now and seems to be more reliable.

Nice work, guys. :p

I don't have any contact cleaner handy (how, I don't know, but still). I used WD40. I'll flush that out with contact cleaner when I get some.

91% alcohol will work as well as contact cleaner... just take a bit longer to evaporate. If you ever get your hands on some CorrosionX, that stuff will fix it for good with just one application. Use it on your kill switch & light switches too. Awesome stuff for electrical contacts & anything electro-mechanical. It is a polar bonding lubricant so it never washes out. A bit pricey though... but one can will serve you for decades.

Caig's Deoxit D5 electronic contact cleaner is what I use around here. Also somewhat spendy on price but it gets rid of that blue-green oxide on brass contacts that have been exposed to water for too long.

I DO have Corrosion X, LOL. I flushed out the WD-40 with Denatured Alcohol. Should I follow that with Corrosion X? I have both regular and HD versions, but the HD is very thick and heavy.
