For anyone else who has a similar question, I just cleaned the IACV on my 2008 420 ES rancher. Even a very slight idle increase can stop or effect the shifting. I just cleaned the IACV (idle air control valve) for the cost of a $5 can of CRC electronic cleaner spray and a T20 safety torx bit (with hole in center). The dirty cleaner fluid rolled out, that thing was filthy around the spring. There are plenty of great videos out there on how to do this
There is a notch on the part that needs to snuggle in/out with a slight twist one way or another. It is a simple fix. Magnetize the torx bit will help from dropping one of the screws, lol. I hope this helps someone. I am spreading this all over the place because I don't see much said about it...
