My buddy has a 2003 400ex..runs good but hes starting to have some minor backfire problems. Also its burning oil fast..like really fast and some smoke out of the pipe sometimes. It has a small tick that were not sure if its from the oil problem or a timing problem..if you any imput its much appreciated.

P.S its bored to 440 if that can explain anything.

The back fire could be anything from the carb to improper valve adjustment. the burning oil could be the rings, 440 kits take away alot of the engine they get hot faster than stock engines. I would run a compression test, readjust the valves and clean the carb and see what you have then.
